. Y'all have a good day!!!

chickmate, Jace won't eat him. but he understands that we can not keep rocky either. He much prefers his hen Buffy. He LOVES LOVES Buffy. He likes rocky too... But he understands. He's a smart kid. He's ok that we are going to send him to freezer camp, he'd rather I sold him, but i hate the idea of Rocky hurting someone else's hens because he is so aggressive. I can't coop him on his own either. That's just not feasible.
The reason I say jace, will not eat him, is that, Have only like chicken nuggets and patties, or cordons. But regular roasted chicken... Not doing... Lol.

as for the girls free ranging, I said to my mom, that will be the spring project. We don't have roaming dogs here. People are very good about it here. All the dogs live in apts. No private yards and they are not allowed tie outs over there. So nice. But I think I am goin to reinforce the fence, take out the gat and make it solid, and utilize the back door to the garage for the lawn mower. Maybe build a 20ft x 15ft run...

Ok....pages behind again. Don't know how that happens!! Nova I am so sorry for your leghorn loss. I lost one of mine to a neighbors dog this past summer.....wounded so badly we had to put it down. Not fun.

Hillbilly I am glad to hear you will have BR chicks and eggs this spring.....I have made a note of it. We return in May.
Glad surgery went ok for you...using crutches in the winter makes it doubly difficult...be careful.

It has really been cold up here but still NO SNOW!!! I'll take it!

Good morning every one!! Got up early,(habit) got the chickens fed, watered, and cleaned the poop boards. Nice being home it the AM I can see what they do after I feed them and leave for work, Big Baby's, clean up the treat I give them have a drink then head back inside. All food and water is outside under the covered area this year. 1 cookie tin heater and a heated base waterer and even with it being 11 yesterday morn, the water did not freeze. Looks encouraging. Got my bookkeeping done an a load of laundry started. Kefir strained. And now I am getting my chicken fix before I peal potatoes and go to Church.
Nova sorry for your loss, Hillbilly, glad your surgery went well, take care. and T-ville congrats. It is fun being a chicken grandma.Love the pics from Farmboy, Are those your barns and chicks? calves are so cute. fifelake, didn't you get the auto vac. for your B-day? how do you like it??
Happy Sunday every one. looks to be very nice.

Good Morning, everyone.

So wonderful to wake up to a warm house this morning, as opposed to yesterday morning. It was my company's Christmas party last night- nice time, took my daughters, too. I slept until 6:30, which is completely unheard of from me. I am just getting ready to bundle up and head out to check the chickens. I am such a winter wimp. The weatherbug says it is only 20 degrees out there.

Farmerboy- you can be proud that the chicken you produced is a wanted bird! Hilarious that I posted for months- nobody was interested in the rooster, but now that I rehomed him six other people have asked for him,,,not just him, but hens as well- lol. There is one email from someone in Milford looking for him, and other chickens as well. One lady wrote me and said she would love to have him, beautiful bird- and please will I let a turken hen go with him??

Hillbilly Hen, how are you feeling today? I hope your foot is healing well.

NovaAman, good luck securing your fence today. Its a cold day to do so. Im sorry that the hen didnt make it.

SAM!!! Did you freeze out there hunting? I hope you arent frozen to a tree somewhere..

good morning everyone. Nova, I am sorry your hen didnt make it. Mom and hillbilly hen, hope you are feeling ok today.
Cold but not bad today, hens as usual piled out a soon a the door opened. Right now I am watching my bird feeders, the pileated woodpecker is taking exception to a red bellied woodpeckers interest in the suet. Now those are some beautiful birds.

Sorry about your hen, Nova. We free-range all day, every day, too. To me safety is not the be-all, end-all though. Health, happiness, sustainability, economics, and quality of products produced all are part of our reasoning for doing so too.

well said
wish I could totally let mine out to run the whole yard, but learnt from experiance I have one chicken hungry dog so my birds must remain INside a fenced area. It's quite large tho, they have alot of space. The 2 labs that hang with them all day are not a bother, it's my TERRIERists.
