Merry Christmas to by BYC friends who are celebrating the holiday tomorrow. Hoping all have a wonderful time with family and friends this holiday season.

I received a Christmas Eve miracle this morning. Buffy has finally laid her first egg! And it's a beauty.

Nancy, my neighbor is from Hawaii. Well, not Carl, but his wife.

All the talk of chicken husbandry is very educational, the differing opinions is what makes it great to read. All points of view are interesting and make me glad that I am a small, if somewhat significant, part of this forum.

So, I got a nice surprise today. 7 eggs! So, all 8 girls are laying! AND, I have 2 green eggers so both my Australorp costumed girl and my little black Cochin muff faced mutt lay green!. I found 4 in the coop and then 3 in the garage nest box. So cool! The only one that did not grant me an egg today was Leila, but she laid one let yesterday afternoon, and 2 days in a row, so, I will not expect on today.

on a bad note, I had to rush my little guy to the hospital last night. He went to bed fine, and about 45 minutes later he woke all panicked because he could not breathe. I thought he was having an asthma attack or something. Poor kid has croupe..(sp?) I did not know it could strike that quick. Anyway, after xrays and an oral steroid, its like he was never ill. No fever, nothing. While thinking it was asthma, I quick gave him some cold coffee I had... We do not have anyone in the house with asthma, but I do have albuterol for my oldest, as he is prone to rsv attacks in winter. I am hoping to get thru this winter with out any. But Aiden is ok now so... Totally freaked me out though.

great pic tap. Poor Bella... You grinched her with antlers!

Merry Christmas to everyone!

touchpads are a pain in the butt with the auto correct!

Ok chicken Grandma here you go. Now keep in mind that this is MY opinion and just mine. I ask no one to agree with me or no one to disagree with me. This is MY opinion and only mine which as stated before I have that right.
Do I believe in euthanizing an animal when it is ill? Yes I do but ONLY if everything is has been tried and will not work to fix it. If it is not going to have any quality of life then yes. But if they just have a problem and can be fixed, wether it is by drugs or any other means, no I do not believe in it. Would I cull my chickens if one was sick ? No I would not. That would be like one of my sheep having a respiratory thing and condemning them all. If I can fix it and the animal have a good life then I will fix it. I work very close with my vet who has over 500 chickens herself and if she tells me it can be fixed then we fix it. I will not now or ever condemn a whole flock or herd of animals for what one or two might have. To me a life is a life whether it be human or animal. In the past I have had several cocker spaniels put down because of cancer, but ONLY when all other aspects have failed. My vet loves having me as a client because she always says that I am one of the very few people that will go the extra mile for an animal.
Again, this is MY opinion and mine alone. I don't care who agrees and who don't. I have my animals for my own pleasure and nobody else's. If someone chooses to never buy an animal from me then so be it I don't really care.
Hope I didn't make anyone mad with my opinion.

I, too, have a blue healer named Bella. Actually she is a mix with catahula and not blue at all. Here she is with Maggie, my golden.
