Sorry to laugh Nova but I was picturing the whole thing as I was reading it.
As for getting your little boy to lay down in the mud to get your stray egg......I've never met a boy who doesn't like to play in the mud especially when he's given permission!

I'm a 52 year old boy and I like to play in the mud. Also the swamp, pond, bog, fen, lake, river, cave, whatever.

I'm a 42 year old girl and I love to play in those things too. My mom used to call me her biggest troublemaker that way. That's what I get for living on my sister's ranch in the summertime because she let me do all the things my parents didn't lol

One of my mom's favorite stories was when I was 9. I had 2 back-to-back neuro surgeries and spent 4 months or so in the hospital. I was discharged christmas eve and we drove straight from the hospital to my sister's for the holiday. Her place was between Holland and Saugatuck, about 2 hours from here. When we left the hospital I still had bandages on my head because I didn't have hair and had a huge scar on my head.

As soon as we got there, I jumped out of the car, ran up to the horses and slipped in the mud under the electric fence. Fortunately it wasn't on. But I was so excited to see the animals that I went running around in the thick mud chasing the horses. By the time I was done you couldn't tell my bandages were white...or me lol

A Little dirt or mud never hurt anyone and I must admit I too played & still play in it!! Having 3 brothers and numerous male cousins I was the cutest & swiftest tomboy in the area. The boys could never figure out how I was able to get as dirty as they did but never seemed to get into as much trouble for it as they did. Pigs-tails and a toothless grin always helped!! They also could never figure out how I was able to shoot the pop can off the fence pole when they gave me the old BB gun with a crooked barrel!!

ding dang squirrels! They got into the bread!

Ok, I went in the garage to get duck feed, and I see this strange looking poop. Instant concern. THEN I see the bread bag, the bird feed block, and a rabid squirrel mess! Ok, they are not rabid, but why in the heck would they be pea brained enough to go in the garage! OH! Because Mr. Fluffy worthless butt was out harassing the neighbors hens instead of chasing them (the evil invaders) away like he normally would. Come'on now! He has 7 hens! Greedy horn dog. Saw a few nice looking prices of tail feather and he is and mounting! I mean running. Must be the weather. Must be that I am not a rooster, therefore, I can in no way possibly understand the inner workings of such a mind. I am sure, though, that a man with 87 children from 63 different women, can.
