Okay, I know this is a little early, but we are starting to plan what we are going to do with the garden and chicken area this year. (We are making our garden area alot smaller) I am also adding another small coop and want to dress the area up a little with plants. I wanted to plant some plants/herbs around the coops. What are good ones that the chickens can peck at through the run?

oooOOOOO that always sounds fun, have a great day.
we have LOTS of BIG antique stores in Bay City, call me sometime and we can go browse them.

Oh heck yeah! I will be sure to PM you soon! I want to save a little cash before I do that, so I have some money to spend.

I LOVE antiques. I can lose myself in those stores. Thanks for the offer.

I had the same problem. I put a light on a timer to go on an hour before daybreak. The problem was resolved. It seems that the hen would need to lay her egg early but could not see well enough in the dark to move from the roost to the nest box.

I've got a light on a timer but I may change the setting for even earlier? I'm also trying the 1MUTTSFAN idea of a golfball in each nest box. I'm attaching a scrap of sheet under the roost - I saw it somewhere and they called it an "egg diaper" for the new girls that just started until they learn the drill. I still could use more ideas though. One thing about chickens is I learn something new everyday:)
