Very sorry for this ChicwannaB!
Get that new incubator and throw this one in the trash! Hugs, Nancy
I do not understand it at all. They were obviously fertile or wouldn't have even done as much as they did and did you see #4?? Almost perfectly formed. How long did it go before it died? It must have been something I did because the incubator was incubating them. The three of my own, 2 BRs and a RIR or Brahma were not fertile and I threw those away early on, nothing in them at all. But what did I do that killed them?
WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
welcome to all the new guys, .......farmboy sounds like your pasture is coming along very well.......
now I have a question about sulfadimethozine, does any one use it for cocci? I had a fecal redone again last week cause I was seeing signs of the cocci being back. 2 weeks before the fecal showed negative. this week as I suspected it was positive. DARN,DARN DARN.... So do I HAVE to through the eggs out, Got more eggs today then I have for months .Pkg says to treat for 5 days. what I read most of the time on BYC is treat for 24hrs. then again in 10 days. Also how much powder do you use per gallon of water. Vet thought 1/2 oz. chicks do not like the water and eat snow instead????

Did you see my post about the eggs being infected? I'm pretty sure that's what it is. That's why those eggs are all splotchy like that.
See day 8 pics? They look like the top 3rd pic. Those almost never turn out. It wasn't your fault!!! I was hopeful they would though, especially the ones that came from you. Incubating eggs is almost like the luck of the draw!
the incubation post is very interesting. I have only had broody's hatch chicks, only 1 success this year. but I did candle some eggs and they were rather blotchy like the ones you said may have bacteria of some sort. I also had 1 die that was fully feathered but did not hatch. So you think the white splotches on the feathered chick was bacteria? A sad post but very informative. Thanks for sharing. chicwannab and keyt
