Hey there, HillbillyHen: Say, will you have BR hatching eggs this spring? (Or chicks. Either way...) *bats eyes* I think I'm plotting my own demise. Chicken math, I tell you.

ChicwannaB and RaZ, I'm sorry for your losses. I've never tried to incubate and don't know if I ever will. From all the posts I've read results vary so madly. As for hawks, I haven't had one attack (I lost a porcelain d'uccle to a skunk this summer), but I've seen so many lately. Darn things keep swooping right in front of my car when I'm driving. In fact, the one that did 2 days ago actually had something. Don't know what it was, but it looked to be a decent sized lunch.

Alright, confession time! Obviously I'm not much of a poster on this thread, but I do keep up with all that is said and have had to hold in my desire to own chickens due to fussy neighbors...until NOW! I have been speaking with my neighborhood board members for the past couple of months, trying to get them to lighten up a little, and GUESS WHAT?? I ACTUALLY CONVINCED THEM! The neighborhood told me I can keep my chickens as long as they are quiet (no roosters in my future) and I already have neighbors requesting eggs once the chickens are laying!

And I'm now known as the neighborhood chicken lady.

Had I not had access to this website (or thread), my argument would have not been convincing to them. So a big THANK YOU to you all - and I have a feeling this will not be my last time typing those words here.

Time to plan for the arrival of spring chicks!

Can't wait!!

wow, wonderful day huh? I saw Miss Chante Pants setting in the nest again so I grabbed my chair and sat in the sun outside with the other hens and waited for her to come out...ANOTHER EGG FROM HER!!! YEAH. Thinking of stashing a few of hers to put under that broody!!
It sure was nice to set in the sun. I had a lap full of scratch and was hoping some of them would be courageous enough to hop up but they didn't go that far

Try the bat exhibit at Cranbrook Science Museum. They have a great display.

Do you have a spot where you can put up a bat house? If you have a place for them to stay, you can draw them in. It often takes a year or 3 for them to come to the bat box. If you need a bat house, let me know, I've made several of them.

RaZ - I am not sure where to place bat boxes? I have a forest behind my home, a 6 ft. fence surrounding our home and the house/garage itself. Where would you put a bat box?
