Ok... Been a few days since I posted more than a few words. Have been very busy since the weather has been so nice. Just cleaned the duck coop out. I did it a few days early as I dont expect to see such nice weather again for a while. I was able to go outside in a t-shirt and was still comfy! The duckies were super happy to have a fresh pool and even happier with the fresh mud. Sick little birds. I have holes in my yard big enough to break a leg. Ok, I am exagerating. LOL.
Mr. Fluffers and I have had a minor falling out. That rotten poop head was in the garage, which I normally do not mind, and he snatch up little Leila and flung her! I couldn't believe it! He literally snatch her by her wing and sent her flying! Roger went running away from him like hell was on his tail. I can see him going after Rog, but why Leila? She's a girl. So needless to say, Mr. Fluffers got a kick in the hiney, not enough to actually hurt him, but enough to send him on his way, and then I stalked him all over the yard till he went into the brambles. Then he sat there calling his girls, and none of them went to be there with him. Poor guy. LOL. That was 2 days ago now. He gave me the serious stink eye when I opened the coop to give nite veggies and to put the bread on the shelf arm. (I found that those metal shelf brackets work great to put a foot long sub loaf on) So he would not come down off the roost, but evil glared at me. I gave him a palm full of peas, and he tried to resist, but the peas won out, and we are back on nice terms and he has not harrassed Leila at all. I don't get it though. He has never been that mean to her. He never really liked her I know that, be he was never mean to her like that. I am thinking that my spring project will be an outdoor silkie coop and run.
I got 8 eggs today. SO, 1 again from every girl. How old should they be before I start to save eggs for hatching? Heres why I ask... They have a bator on the clearence shelf at TSC. Its a dry air bator, and you can get the optional egg turner to go with it. Well anyway... Its tempting is all. I figure I will save Leilas and Buffys eggs. So I will end up with for sure silkies and silkie x faverolles, since Roger has added Buffy to his harem, but Mr. Fluffers also mounts Buffy, cuz she will go hang out with him and the other girls all day, but sleep in the garage with Roger and Leila... SO, if thats the case, and Buffy is an any time of the day layer, which one will be the egg baby daddy? BUT I figure I can always force Buffy back into the big coop... Well, I guess the garage is the big coop... SO, force her back out to Mr. Fluffers coop when I wish to start saving. I guess I will also save my dottes eggs too. That will be something, SLW x SF and GLW x SF. LOL. Either way, since both those breeds are dual purpose, the extra roos will make good dinner.
Speaking of dinner, What had some very DARK dark meat. It was really yummy, but I have never seen dark meat that dark before. What was the roo that I didn't have a clue as to what he was... Anyway, the legs were nearly as dark as the meat on turkey legs. Kinda tasted a bit like turkey leg too. Wonder if I can find another What...
Has anyone around here gotten layer crumbles from Vriesland Feed? It is very very fine feed, but it also packs like flour, so I have noticed less spillage under the feeders with it.
The wild turkeys came back thursday morning. I have not gotten them corn yet this year. I usually pick up corn from the country gas stations. Its not as nice as the corn from TSC, but when its only 6 smackaroos for a 50 pound bag, I don't really care. Its for the turkeys. They did check out the chicken coop though. Not in it, but around it. My son was so excited to see the wild tom with his tail feathers all spread out. He said it has blues and greens and red in it. I, however, missed it.
Anyway. My head is killing me, and I have to work tonight, so going to call it a nite. Have a great one everyone.
