Hi Everyone.....My-oh-my-oh-my......This will take some getting use too. Family thought I spent too much time on here already, looks like I'll be playing, surfing, reading and whatever....EVEN MORE just to get the hang of the new format. Can't say if I like it or not only time will tell but I know it's for the better. So off to lock my flock up and then back here later explore.

Chickflick.....Sorry to hear your sad news, my heart feels for you and for KrisRose....not a pleasant thing to have to do.

P.S. Found the edit Icon!!! lol

I'm running a little slow, not as fast as I'd like too so Google Chrome it will be. Already have Firefox but wasn't crazy about it.

OK, it looks like the subscription thing IS working.
This just popped in my mail box.
A thread you subscribed to, Michigan, has been updated. wyliefarms replied to Michigan on January 11, 9:58 am.

My guess is that they are running a bit behind considering just how many peeps use BYC. I say "kudos" to the fine people who are behind the scenes and have worked so hard for us to give us a way to chat with and meet like minded chicken nuts.

haven't had to much trouble yet. but all I have done for the past 1/2 hr is read up on todays post........hawks can act fast. lucky you came home when you did. Hawks seem very hungry this yr. we lost one to this fall the first one in 4yrs.

we just started using google chrome a few days before the big change, and our computer is running ok. we were running an internet explorer before and it was sooo slow. So sorry about the hawk

I did not get to let mine out today because we had a big one circling too. I was afraid that he'd come back as soon as i let them out, and the younger ones don't come when called.

It is working for me. I am getting email notices for the threads I subscribe to which is THE D'UCCLE THREAD. Love those d'uccles.

Its working now.

Thanks for all the info Olive. It is very helpful. I will just start with feeder pigs for a few years before keeping some year round, if we come to that point.

Does anyone raises or know someone who does have Milking Shorthorn cattle, for I really want a milking cow for the family. My dad was looking through a book that I got from the library, ''Family Cow''. Very good book, anyway based on what my dad read, he picked Milking Shorthorn for dual-purposes. Cows for milk, and bull calves for steers.

Yes, sorry, I did mean Leila. I guess you can see how much I miss my Bufferella...

I have food right in the Broody Chateau with her. Water as well. She will not get off. I took her out of there this morning, and there was poop all in the nest box. I cleaned that out too. Leila is so broody that the only thing she does is turn the eggs. I noticed they were all in a different order than they were in when I took her out yesterday. Talk about dedication! Well, anyway, I went to the feed store and got chick feed, figure since she isn't laying, and the chick feed is 24% protein, should help fatten her up, and keep her that way. I can hope right. I also have scratch in a plate next to the feed as well as some dried meal worms.

I spent this lovely 55 degree day getting the last of the leaves moved to the duck run. They went nuts. Added a thick layer of straw to the duck coop and put straw in the under-run for the chickens. This bail of straw had a lot of seeds stalks in it. Even the ducks found that tastey. Got Roger's garage pen changed out too and put straw there as well. I was using pine there, but its just a pain in the butt on the garage floor. I have large sheets of box type card board down in the garage too, so come spring, it'll be easy just to pick up and chuck, (Thanks for the idea Angela) and not have chicken caca all over the floor. LOL.

Sorry bout your loss chickflick. As pretty as hawks are... I prefer them in someone elses yard... Across the street... Down the road... In the blueberry field catching mice...
