This is Bobbi, our Belgium D'Uccle hen. I would love to own a flock of D'uccle. They are the sweetest breed we have ever had! The Silkie Mix in the first photo is Chi Chi. We brought her with us from Hawaii.

Nova Are those chicks from the add on GR CL? I saw it on there a few days ago and thought about you since you had just lost your girl, but it was right around switch over time here and I was still trying to figure everything out. Enjoy your new babies and please post some pics.

My girls are not real fond of the snow. However if having snow means record breaking egg production I'm in. I have 20 girls and most of the fall and early winter I was only getting 4-6 eggs per day. A couple of weeks before the solstice the numbers went up slightly. I was really starting to try and figure out a way to get more light in the coop to boost production. Then on the day of the solstice the numbers jumped quite a bit and I was getting 10-12 eggs a day. Over the last week I have been getting 13 eggs every day, and then it happened. Old man winter showed up last night dumped a few inches of the white stuff and today I got 16 eggs. Well done ladies!!!!

I have probably missed a few newcomers lately, hamilton and dmc that I know of. For all the rest, welcome and enjoy the MI thread. So many wonderful people on here to talk chicken or life with.

TV is back!

Chickens are so cute when they are all snuggled up on the perch at night. All their little faces are just looking at me and their cooing when I secure the coop. I got my path to the coop all cleared so I can wear my coop crocs instead of my boots. Driveway is cleared but the snowplows haven't been down my road yet. I live on a little cul de sac and they ignore us for days. My dad came over asked me if I wasn't paying my taxes so the city was refusing to plow our street.

Grandma- Bobbi was a beautiful little girl as are your children (or handsome in your son's case). Is that picture taken on the deck of the Grand Hotel?

Nova, I am going to wait on the chickens til mid Summer due to travel but thank you! I love Mr. Fluffers!

Mom 2 - doesn't that sound like pneumonia in your hen that died? I mean the wheezing? I would clean all the water dishes with a 1 part bleach to 30 parts water solution and if any other hen wheezes, I would give them a pennicillan/amoxicillan drug for 7 days. I know Fifelaker used Denagard in the water for a respiratory infection in her flock and her flock is well. I know it is just a guess and I hope that is not going to happen but that is what I was thinking. So sorry, I hate to lose a chicken and we all do - it is part of the bargain.

Farmer Andy - yes that is the Grand Hotel. My son looks like his Dad (who passed from brain cancer 4 years ago) and my daughter takes after my side of the family. It has been interesting to have kids that are full siblings but look different. I get some odd looks when I introduce them!

RaZ I ,didn't think you were curt at all. It was a good idea, and I was just saying I already do it. Great minds!

Olive, I have NO afternoon sun beyond 5 pm at the longest day then by then end of growing season I am down to shadow by noon. So, I take advantage of the sun I get. I can not are down the neighbors trees. Did I ever mention I am surrounded by trees? I will take a pic this summer and show just how any... I pllant very close to my road now,and always worry that some one who is hard up will raid my veggies. I will have 2 boxes that size long with the 5 gallon self watering pots I made and the table pots. I hope to learn canning this year. Last year we ate it as fast as we grew it.

Yes Andy, those are the ones. She didn't advertise the hen thou. I asked if she'd be willing to part with her. Hehe
