I know what you mean FarmerBoy! Driving through a whiteout is not fun. It has been snowing sideways here all morning and at some times I could just barely make out the first barn and couldn't see the other two. I'm glad you took your time and played it safe. Fortunate for you there wasn't too much traffic at that time of morning! At least I hope not!

no, no baby. Just didn't know if they'd get inedible being under 107 degrees or so of feathered belly...

Eggs are okay to eat even though they have been under a hen for a day, just candle them before cracking. lol

Yes, dmclalin, it was not fun. I had to go really slow so I can see where I have to make a turn. I must have passed about 10 to 15 cars on a 13 mile drive, which seems forever to drive. :th

There's no need to worry about (or candle) eggs that have been under a broody for a day or less. There won't be any visible development even if they're fertile.

ETA: In fact, there's not even a need to refrigerate your eggs at all. Fresh eggs, with the bloom intact will keep for a very, VERY long time right on your counter. Even in the summer.

I never thought I would actually be able to do this. This morning after feeding the horses, I decided to not go anywhere, so I put another log on the fire and poured another cup of coffee and here I sit with laptop in front of the fire. It finally stopped snowing and a little sun poking through but the wind is relentless.

Well, I don't think I'll be able find whatever nest my wandering hen could have made. I wasn't able to find her even after checking all the possible hiding spots 3 times, and now with a nice new layer of snow on the ground I have my doubts about finding a nest if there is one.
She's been odd since the first snow, it's like she doesn't like winter to the point of being inactive. She'll get up for food and water, or to escape me, then hunch herself up, standing or sitting, like she's cold. She's a weird chicken.

Nice to be retired isn't it? can't wait!!!!

Yup, I sure do enjoy being retired!! Don't think I'd be able to keep up with this chatty group if I wasn't. I'm still hiding inside. Did my morning chicken/bunny chores and walked over to Krisrose's to let her dog out and now I'm staying in. Gotta find something to do so my DH thinks I'm busy keeping the household functioning. He'll be leaving soon to go to Baker College soon for his class, so then I can sit back and be lazy, too!

Good afternoon fellow Michiganders, Michiganians, etc, etc!!! Oh look the sun just came out! WOOT! Dang the snow is blinding! Got another inch of snow overnight up here in northeast LP added to the 7 inches we got the other day and the 5 inches a few days before that. The pups have just moved from their respective snooze spots to lay in it, gives me a few more minutes to finish this post before the puppy demands another walk.

How is everyone? I've been AWOL since mid April of last year, just lost interest I guess, plus having acquired a new puppy the month before really took up a lot of time. I'm not even going to try reading the hundreds of posts here since my last visit. Just wanted to say hi to anyone who may vaguely remember me, hi to the newbies and those I haven't met. Hopefully, I'll be around more. Especially as I just ordered 25 new chicks!

And now the puppy is whining for attention so I must go. Later!

It was scary, but the snow was beautiful. I know, I am nuts

If you're nuts, so am I! While I was sledding through the streets while working Saturday, I kept thinking 'wow, this is so pretty/beautiful' even though I was doing my best to get around without ending up sliding off the road. Some of those back roads can get crazy and mail trucks slide at the slightest provocation.

It is so windy outside. They closed school for the day so the kids are home. No one wants to go outside, but alas, chickies and piggies cannot take care of themselves. So time to bundle up and do the midday check.
