My stat prof is kind of excited about my egg project. I think he is interested in chickens in general so maybe I can make a convert of him. Never hurts to butter up the guy who passes out the grades.
It's great that your professor is very receptive to your egg project. I will be sending you my egg counts at the end of each month. I will do all I can to help you.

Feeling like a bit of a stalker, reading and reading and by the time I get through all the posts....I got nothin'. Ferret I was amazed that you found your hen.

A tough ride to work this morning as the water pump went out in the truck an the highway. If anyone spotted a crazy truck with chicken BYC bumper stickers going down US 31 with hazards and only going 10 MPH....That was me. Made to a fix it shop without blowing the engine and got a loaner car. Only a half hour late for work. It is a blessing that I was not out in the middle of nowhere when it happened cause the weather was not real pleasant on the lakeshore today.

Keep warm.

Holy crow, it's cold outside! Just back back from picking up DD who was babysitting. Had a tough time starting the truck up to go get her. Took 3 tries. Passed that sign again and this time temp is 3 degrees. Way colder with the wind chill, I bet.

eta-Opa, I love those smilies. That last one is too funny.

SAM! You are sleeping in! I've gone through almost an entire pot of coffee already.

IT IS COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried to explain that to my dogs, but they still wanted to go out. If they would learn to use the toilet, they wouldnt have to be out in this weather.
Ive got my morning hen out there throwing a fit. She fills in where the rooster left off, I suppose. Noisy bird.

I hope you all have a great morning!!

Stay warm.

I slept in this morning and as cold as it is I think I should have stayed in bed. I dread even thinking about going out to check the birds. They will need water but I think they can wait until closer to noon when it's a little warm. It's so cold right now that even the words on this page have turned blue.

I am certain that this cold weather is my fault.

See...the weather had been so mild that I took the chance- and I have coveted eggs coming.

They are enroute. Should arrive today.

I wonder if eggs that have been frozen can hatch? Since freezing eggs and sperm cells is common I think that as long as the egg hasn't burst, it should be alright but I've never tried it.

Mornin Opa and Michigan.

It makes sense...are you going to try to hatch some??
We haven't left yet...wanted to leave early but a friend we are stopping to see on the way in N.C. isn't available until the original date...so we will leave on next Wed.
Since I moved the flock to the RV coop...they seem to be doing ok but I have found 3 tailfeathers from my roo. Surely he won't be going into a molt when it is this frigidly cold??
I have been giving them vitamins via their water so hope that will help.
Tomorrow or Sat. we hauled them a mile away while they are in the coop. Hopefully it won't be toooo stressful.

I have always used heated water buckets for my flock during winter...they aren't having that luxury at my friends so I have used for the past week the black rubber bowl. They are terrific. I go out about 8:15am....throw the bowl out in the snow...stomp on it and voila! ice is gone. Fill it up with warm water and so far (today probably not true) no ice when I check at 5pm.

What a COLD Morning.......Last night I brought the electric waterer in to wash & sanitze so I wouldn't have to do it this morning. What a chill & blast of cold I got when I opened the garage walkout door. As I was heading out to the coop, sled with water & base in my hand I noticed that the short cord on the base was sticking straight out like a lighting rod. It was so cold that it didn't droop or dangle in the air like it normally would had but instead was poker straight! The chickens seemed fine and were glad to go out into the run despite the coldness.

Well off to work, good day everyone and stay warm!

Mom, I love the name beeper - may steal it from you this spring if I get a good candidate

Cold up here too after a night of wind, but us Yoopers are not supposed to complain about cold so I will make it a weather comment only. Got the tractor out yesterday and cleared the driveway, the snowmobile helmet is a godsend when snowblowing in the wind, but I'm thinking it looks pretty funny.

I agree with Grandma, not sure if I love this multi-quote cabability, it makes the reply quotes veeery long. Maybe we could edit a little to cut down on repeating the same posts?
