I've seen a few mud puppies, but they've been pretty small.
Weird, but true... I went to a pet store one day, looking at purchasing some new fancy orandas and I came across this really odd looking creature. It was only a few inches long, but it was so fascinating that I just had to have it. I bought a new fish tank, rocks, plants, filter... Brought this odd thing home. The thing was, the pet store did not know what it was. They didn't even know why they had it, but that it just came in with a fresh fish shipment. They put it in its own tank and smacked a for sale sign on it. Well, anyway... I bought it the same day they got it. bought some algae pellets for it and some sinking pellets also. This creature had a mouth so big. It just opened its mouth and it was like it inhaled the pellets.
I went on the internet at my dads house to find out what it was. I mean, where to begin right? So, I started with salamanders, because it was the closest thing I could think of. After a few hours I found waterdogs. So very cool.
It did not take long for that sucker to get big. It didn't take to long for it to out grow its 5 gallon tank, and I soon had to put it into a 10 gallon and even sooner I was buying minnows for it, and even sooner after that... I took him to V.I. Pets and traded him in because there was no way in hades he was going to move into my 55 gallon tank. I had fish in that tank that I spent LOTS OF MONEY PER FISH on and they were not going to be this little suckers dinner...
For anyone who would like to know what a waterdog/mudpuppy looks like... They really are cool looking...
Mine had these huge horns before his front legs. They were quite impressive. Freaky looking, but so cool.
