Chickmate - where in Australia? I lived there in the 1970's.
Lived in Melbourne (Croydon) and travelled from Adalaide to Cairnes and back through Sydney.

Chicken grandma! Were you in Australia in 1979? If so, we were on the same continent! (OK, just as we are now I realize). That was the year I spent as an exchange student. I was in Victoria way out in the country, an area called Ecklin South. The town I went to high school in, Terang, was only a few thousand people so you probable never heard of that. How about Warrnambool? That was our "Big Smoke"--not really, of course. The Big Smoke was Melbourne, but I think that was about 150 miles away. I did get to visit Melbourne several times during that year. So funny if you were still there in 1979... Maybe we even passed each other on the streets of Melbourne. I've figured it out. Chickmate has been visiting the BYC Aussie thread, not Australia itself. Seems like we would have gotten more of a head's up if she were actually visiting the country instead of virtually visiting. OK, good. Now my head has stopped spinning. I'll have to check the Australian thread out myself... tomorrow maybe! Instead of being productive! Wheeee!

Oh, Chicken grandma! Here's the most important question to ask you about your time in Australia! Who did you barrack for in footy? They seriously told us in our exchange-student orientation that we had to have an answer for that from day one. Then the leaders of the orientation each tried to convince us that our answer should be whichever their own favorite was.

My stock answer (and yes, I got asked a lot) was St. Kilda, known as the worst team ever, perennial winner of the Wooden Spoon. In my teenaged mind, I thought this was a clever and amusing answer. Trouble was, nobody got that. Either people felt sorry for me, poor ignorant Yank that I was, and tried to gently steer me toward a more successful team, or they politely made some remarks about how St. Kilda had some good players and a long history and maybe they'd have a decent season this year (all the while trying to keep the pity from showing in their eyes). Anyway, I was the only one who saw any humor or sarcasm in my answer. (Not the first, or the last, time that's happened).

So, really, Chicken grandma, did you have a footy team?

I spent a week one day in Newberry. I think that is close by?

Newberry is about 20 miles from me. Thats the closest family dollar, grocery store and fast food place lol. Our closest Walmart is about an hour and a half drive. We are pretty much the middle of nowhere

Ok all what kind of Roo is this? He is looking for a home if anyone wants him, I just took him in when the owners abandoned him and his hens. The hens have homes but he is stuck in a large dog crate in my barn because I already have too many roos. In the E. U.P. but willing to travel a little for a home for him...

fifteen babies hatched out total last night...my incubator was so crowded I couldnt tell if there were anymore eggs. I just now moved all of them into the brooder- two more babies were zipped, wing out, and dried in there, stuck. Saved them, they are still in the incubator- for a total of 17 babies. I refilled the water with really warm water in the incubator because there are three unpipped eggs.

I was trying to wait until everything was hatched- fantastic incubator, but the floor space is half of what a hovabator or other styrofoam incubator has. I couldnt tell eggs from eggshells. Couldnt even see eggs under a sea of babies

They are so cute. Got black, yellow, grey, and some are very tiny, some have fuzzy feet some have fuzz on just their legs..pictures later.

The coffee is on yet I can hardly get motivated. This cold is whipping my butt big time. I can't remember ever having one that hurts quite as much as this one. I've got lots I need to do but it is going to have to wait. Walking across the room wears me out. I really worry about Granny having it as well.

Everyone ready for some snow? It of course has to happen on the night I'm driving into downtown Detroit to the Filmore. I'm glad we got a room so we don't have to drive home in it.
