I got my sewing machine back today. A whopping $35.00 to fix it. I love small town repair men. This guy is about 70+ years old and works from 5 am to 2 pm. Now I have no excuse not to get rid of the stack of sewing. And I'm excited to say my sewing room now has 4 walls, a door, finished dry wall and a new coat of paint. I just have to get the ceiling in and decide on the floor. I can't wait to move things in. Right now I have to sit on the floor to sew. I know crazy - but it works for me. I am looking forward to having a sewing room and my desk again.

Well wishing everyone better right now as all these bugs/viruses are going around.
The only good thing about any of it is it has dampened my chick desire so post all the cute little pics you want because it's not going to affect me right now.

Hasn't dampened the chick desire here, it has only made me not enjoy taking food out to the broody! Just waiting for my eggs in the mail.
I am feeling much better this evening..... I can breathe.

RMH - love the pictures! How has having a bachelor group worked out for you?

I don't think we are supposed to get any snow. I'll have to go look. We have no tv so we are always out of the loop.

.

gosh mom, what are you gonna do with all those chicks?

Feel better, Chcikflick...what did you do to lock up your trigger finger?
AND...whatever you guys dont want, will go to my brother-in-law. He needs his chickens replenished. SO, since I agreed to hatch for him, someone in the family has to go slaughter some roosters. He has too too many roosters, not enough hens. Not enough space for so many roos. There are a hundred things I would do different if his place was mine- starting with his chicken yard. I would expand it ten times in size- he has the room, and I would cover it so that nothing could climb in. He closes up the coop at night, but he loses alot of chickens to owls and hawks and coons. :( And he wont take care of the extra roosters.

hope they are all girls.

me too.

Look at these feet:

and can you guess which ones are my favorites>?

There is a grey butt on the left of the picture..favorite, and there is a yellow/grey at the top right...super favorite..and one of the yellows has a beard and eyelashes. awwwwwwwwww.

top center grey and yellow have no idea what it is, but I love it..and the grey ones on the right, silkie mixes five toes. aww again.

ETA-
no taprock, I dont stop them from rolling and knocking eggs around, the chicks seem to hatch fine..however, I do think that is how the last two got stuck after they zipped. I think they had a pile of babies on top of them, and sucked the moisture right out of that membrane. It was too crowded for my liking in there- but fabulous hatch I love this new incubator!

I finally made myself some pajamas last week. I haven't sewn in years, just not motivated, but thought if I started something simple I'd get back into it. So I made a pair of shorts and peasant top from a 2 hour pattern. Only took me 5 days.

I'm out of practice.

krisrose and I just came back from the ER. My trigger finger locked and I could not straighten it! looks like another surgery in the future.
I had surgery on my thumb about 14 yrs. ago for the same thing. Over worked from cutting to many heads of hair caused mine. Dr. did it right in his office. Very simple procedure.

I think
everyone would be surprised by how much repetitious reading that would eliminate

Doing so definitely makes the reading shorter and faster!!

Question about Bantams: How often do they lay eggs? My little bantam hen is 10 months old and has only delivered a total of 6-8 eggs. All laid when she was very young ...approx. at 4-5 months old. Not another egg from her since. She's happy & healthy.

I was out with the chickens and went to pull some grass from around a small bush. I've has carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists. On my righy hand, I've had four fingers fixed. Pinkie does not get "it". left hand, had 3 done. I've had mine done in hospitals. Be lot cheaper in drs office.

OK...chick pictures :) The hatch produced 6 new silkies....4 showgirls and 2 bearded. I don't know the colors of the two bearded though...any guesses? I think the one is a partridge. The other one is a pink-ish tan-ish color....ish lol these pictures don't show it's real color. I took them with my cell phone so I'll try to did out my digital and snap a few that will pop it's true color with the flash.

I'm getting the stink eye from that one lol ! those are two sleeping showgirls in front of it... and sorry this picture is upside down...

It was suggested to me that if you are expecting chicks in the mail, stop by your post office and let them know when you are expecting them.

I did that today and talked to the manager. I said they were being shipped out on Monday and I expected them by Wednesday. He said that he gets in at 5:30 am and would have them up front for my by 6:30 - 7:00. He also said that if they get in Tuesday night he would have someone call me instead of waiting until morning.

Then he surprised me by saying that they usually get shipments of turkeys. He named off several hatcheries that ship to our post office. There must be a lot of us stealth backyard poultry keepers.

I wonder how we can get organized and lobby for an ordinance change? Although it might be better to keep things on the down low.

JEN-

they are adorable!!!!

Raz'

My postoffice told me the exact same thing! I think there are many many stealth backyarders..and they also told me they get tons of pigeons through their office...
