Good Morning!
Ive had a busy weekend...wish it was longer.
I got a new rabbit cage, moved the bunny and the guinea pig into that, took their old cage, cleaned it up and moved the 17 chicks to there...drained a fish tank in the bedroom, moved it to my daughters room, and moved her leopard gecko into that one.
Yesterday morning, I went out to check the chickens, and the broody in the rabbit hutch has the showgirl eggs due to hatch on Saturday. Well, one of the eggs was on the ground outside the hutch, but under the heat lamp. It still felt cold.
This morning, one of the eggs was out on the ground, out in the cold. So, I lifted Miss Broody up- pulled four eggs that aren't the Showgirls, but are from my Frizzle...marched into the garage, found some hardware cloth, went into the house got her a dish for water and food, then went back to lock her in and lock the rest of the chickens out. Well in that short time, Miss Frizzle had situated herself next to the broody- trying to lay her egg. I tossed her out and blocked off the entrance. I think you all could have probably heard her telling me off. SO LOUDDDDDDDD. For about twenty minutes.
I guess my point to this is this: Now I understand why you all separate your broody hens from the rest of the flock. I haven't- and I haven't had a problem until now...so, live and learn.
