They're really great in baking.

My original plan was to have only ducks. DH became allergic to duck eggs within about a month of eating them. Crap. Then I HAD to get chickens.Never wanted 'em, nope, not me, hated chickens. Heh. Yes I don't have any now, but I will in June. Maybe even May if I decided to pick some up at the feed store. Or HEY, our TSC seems to have them in April, if I remember correctly... I could have laying hens sooner that way.....

I HAVE A QUESTION.

That little Musocvy duckling I rescued is doing great, almost big enough to jump out of the box. Does anyone think he could possibly be re-introduced to him mom, dad and siblings? I have no experience with this. I want to do what's best for the little guy and he seems so lonely.

I don't think I ever ate a duck egg in my life.

Thanks for the kind words on my wall. I used a computer and projector to draw it on the wall (for reference) and then hand painted it. It's not all free hand, but I didn't follow the lines that well either. So it kinda was, and kinda wasn't freehand. I added a few more leaves etc. It would be easy for anyone to do if you can rent or get your hands on a projector. The wall color is kind of a dark milk chocolate color called Caramelized Onion, and the design is the next shade lighter called Faint Maple. The blue in the leaves is Blue Metropolis. I'm thinking of using the blue on one wall in the master bath as the bathroom is painted the faint maple color. I'm going to do another in the living room too! I want to do one in the kitchen but the projector needs a long distance to get the size I want, I may have to do it free hand in there. When I picked up a quart of the blue.. had I'd known it was almost 20$ I would have just gotten a gallon of it. WOW! (valspar)

That wall is so cool. Can you pm me the website where you found the pattern? I am looking for something really similar to put on the front of a dresser. Thanks!

Isn't that just annoying? I thought moving from VA to northern MI would get me out of ice storms... But NOOOOOO. Ah well, hopefully it will hold off till I get back from Alpena Tuesday afternoon. Never seems to fail though, I have a dentist appointment and a storm comes.

PS, I'm tired of selecting my text to make it purple, is there any way to make it do this automatically?
Batten down the hatches, might be an ice-storm coming, prediction is for late tues-late wed. My cold precludes me from wanting to do much but I think I'll go on out and make sure everything is ready.

Oh, forgot. I think my other Cochin is going broody. I caught her digging a nest in the straw bale where I had set todays eggs and settling down on them. She has already laid an egg today, so she wasn't getting ready to lay. Also, Veena laid another shell-less egg... What is that all about! They are getting enough calcium. They have free access to shell.... Hmmm....

Speaking of composting. After composting all of my adult life, I took a Master Composter class a few years ago. Like a Master Gardener, there are quite a few opinions on how things should be done. There is good information and some that isn't. I also found that there still exists a lot of old wives tales that persist which gardeners and composters both hold dear.

Anyway, it's 48 degrees, sunny and gale force winds (it seems like). I need to get the duck brooder cleaned and sterilized for the new fuzz butts.

Did you get all the info you need to raise and release or are you just getting yourself some pets?

Raz - I am going to show my chicken ignorance here. You're going to have to slow down w/ those abbreviations. What is BLA and Uggo? What is an egg song? Never heard of Langshan. Are they are brown or white layer?

Ok, well I have probably forgotten to acknowledge somebody that told me something. You all are so kind and patient w/ me. Hope you have all had a nice weekend. My weekend is just starting :) - 4 days off yippee!

Sorry, I was in the same boat last spring as well. I didn't know a BO from B.O. (The first is Buff Orpington and the second was cured with a shower)
BLA is short for Bantam Lavender Ameraucanas. I got 2 girls from 1muttsfan last fall.

I read about Langshans on the TSC website: "The Langshan is a dual-purpose endangered breed originating from China. They are graceful tall birds with feathered legs. They are good layers of brown eggs, but somewhat slow to mature to begin laying. Hens often are not the best brooders but are dedicated mothers once the chicks are hatched. Trimming the feathers around the birds’ vents with dramatically improve fertility in this heavily feathered breed.
Best kept free range and confined; cold hardy and heat tolerant.
Classified as Threatened by the ALBC. Print This Breed Profile"

And Uggos are my nickname for the naked-necks that I got from Mom2emAll a few weeks ago. They are the ugliest birds I have ever seen.

This thread is a wonderful place to learn new things about poultry and other stuff, there are so many experienced people who share their knowledge and wisdom.
