Ack! The only site I could find that listed age instead of diameter (which doesn't help me because I don't know how long it take to grow to 10 inches in diameter,) said 40 years!

LOL....don't know if you work.....out of the home that is ....But it could be a hobby for retirement if you plant some.

Yes you can tap a variety of trees, however, maple is what I tap, and yes, I tap any maple that flows sap. The syrup is as good, if not better than any you can buy. Anyone that has a friend with a tree should ask to tap it. If they are worried about the tree you can tell them commercial sugar bushes tap the same trees their Great Grandfathers tapped with no ill effects. If you have a tree, let's say, 20" in diameter you can put 2, or three, taps in (2 anyway), and pull enough sap for a small family (unless you eat pancakes every day). For someone just trying it out you can use a turkey fryer set-up outside, or a small fire pit (which will blacken your kettle). If you boil in the house be warned you will have walls to wipe down! The steam makes a mess of walls, ceilings, etc. Making syrup is as addictive as buying chickies, and duckies, and bunnies, and.....

So how much would that roughly yield? Of finished product that is.

My parents made maple syrup when I was little. I remember being thirsty and just going to find a tap to drink from. The very best is Maple Syrup Candy .... great memories of my grandparents with that one. I very much want to make some but we don't have a decent pan.

My day began once again with tooth pain so I got the great fun of a visit to the Dentist. Not only do I have a probable root canal in the future but most likely two because the 'hazy' spot on the x-ray is between the roots of two teeth.

Is it better to move a broody to a safer spot before her chicks hatch or wait until they do? She is in a small cage now and I want her in the little coop so they will have some space to themselves. However the chicks are due Saturday so I don't want to risk moving them now if she might get upset.

I had two root canals in one day once. An upper and a lower. Longest 3 hours in a dentist chair I've ever spent. Fortunately the dentist was very good, never felt a thing after the Novocaine and he was funny as heck. Still never want to do that again. Wasn't cheap, either.

Well I had a sparring match with my Roo tonight. Just before dusk I saw a low flying hawk, out I go to round them up and he decides I'm the enemy. Numb ninny, he got a poke to the chest and the second time he charged me I poked (gently) him again & sorta made him do a flip in mid air. lol He didn't know what to think and followed the girls and I to the pen.

ran out of time this AM so I couldn't post. but thought maybe I didn't state the bleach thing clearly. It really isn't that much bleach(although I will not do it), 2T in a gallon then 2T of that mixture in to a fresh gallon of water.

I have 2 and have never gotten them to bloom.


Also use Firefox and have no problems.

I have violets from a 94yr old friend they are very old varieties and it is very hard to kill them. they really prefer a N. window the ones I have in the S window are with the blinds closed. they bloom all the time.We used to have a tree infront of that window that worked well also,

Goat kids have hit the ground! Not here, but at the breeder whom I have kids reserved at. One of the does I had chosen to reserve a doeling out of just had FOUR doelings! A quad birth of all girls! So now I get to pick between FOUR little babies! Eeeeeee! I am so excited!

I was going to ask you what kind of goat,? sounds like milk goats, can I ask how much they cost? I would like to get a milk goat but would like to tate the milk first. I have read it is MUCH better then store bought

I have moved broodys but move at night. otherwise they get very upset and act like you took their eggs away and will try to get back to the original location

Nope, totally different animal. Imagine brown sugar baked into little shapes like maple leaves but tasting like a concentrated shot of maple syrup. Wonderful.

Taprock, as long as she is happy where she is and the chicks can't get out into the general population when they hatch then it is probably best to leave her until she hatches her chicks. you always run the risk that they will abandon the nest if moved.

Nigerian dwarf goaties, and they are a small dairy breed. The breeder I am getting my doelings from especially focuses on milk production, both in quantity and nice, milkable teats. The milk is delicious, but definitely try fresh first. The store bought kind is awful, very 'goaty' tasting (if you know what a goat buck smells like, that is what store bought milk kinda tastes like, how they smell. Hard to describe!).

Goaties can't be kept alone, so if you eventually get milk goats, they should be kept in a pair at least. A solo goat is a very stressed out, noisy goat, since they are herd animals!
