Magic ducks? They just appeared? Wow!

Last year I had a few pekins and they went nuts for peas. I tried peas with these little mallards and the same response. Peas must be like crack for ducks.
My hens also like peas but they could care less about grapes, but I didn't cut the grapes into bite size pieces. The big hens go nuts for cantaloupe though.

One nice thing about having poultry is that I'm eating better stuff just so I can justify giving the birds good treats.

They followed me home.

If the wing feather / tail method of sexing chicks holds true, then my last Silver Laced Wyandotte is a pullet. Size-wise, the smallest SLW has longer wing feathers than the same size BSL and ISA Brown. Still waiting to see if the tail gets pointy or not.

Does anyone know when TSC gets chicks, what the age range might be? I'm guessing they might have a few day range in the hatch dates and just dump them all in the same bins.

Ours keeps them separated and they go pretty fast. My CX's are a few days old. Try the belly rub also, hold chick in palm upside down and rub belly, if one leg stretches out and the other curls in it's (supposed to be) a girl. Both legs out it's a boy. The wing feather supposedly is for 24-48 hour chicks only?

Not gonna happen.... I hope y'all are doing well. I think I will backtrack now and see what is the most recent mayhem Raz and Opa have caused.

If you should happen to find something I'm sure that I have forgotten it by now. Raz talks about being an old rooster but compared to me he is still a cockerel.

The weather forecast for tomorrow sounds pretty good so I think there is a chance I might actually gt to all of the things I had intended to do today.

I can not get over those feet! I mean, LOOK AT THOSE FEET! Are you sure you are not willing to share? Lets have joint custody, with me having sole physical custody! It could work...

Most the time. When I am not trying to refrain from strangling them.

My daughter and her girls, made a fairy garden last year. they had a lot of fun doing it and had neighbors stop often to see what they had added.

Spent the morning at Home Depot getting more supplies to continue building the coop. Then got a visit from the Kioti tractor dealer and shelled out $400 for an upcoming service. Got a new radiator fan blade for the tractor...got the tractor in lots of pieces and still can't get the blade out. Anybody got any experience with radiator fans on a Kioti DK40SE? I am open for suggestions!

I got some good info on Maple tree tapping, but nobody replied to my question last night about mixing chicks, so I will repost:
I have been trying to follow the conversations about mixing chickens, biosecurity, etc, but since I am such a newbie, I'm not sure about this.

Could I get some chicks from TSC, and a month or six weeks later mix hatchery chicks in with the TSC chicks? I ask, because I'd like some Australorps which I hear TSC might have. I could cross that breed off my "wish list" and get the other chicks in the middle of April from a hatchery. If I wait until all of the 3-5 breeds I have decided on are available, it will be May or June, and that is just too long to wait and my schedule is just too unpredictable that far out. How old is too old to mix chicks together (for a newly started coop)? Any thoughts? Thanks.

b737drvr, I would not mix them if they were more than a couple of weeks difference in the ages. They grow so fast that the size difference would the biggest issue. You may have to just keep them seperated till they were close to the same size.

That's going to be tough since I only have one coop (so far), but I do appreciate you letting me know.
