Sam, would you happen to have any of those uncles hanging around? Can I borrow them?

I had no idea chickens could fly that high! Something must have spooked her or been after her.

Nope. She was as calm as can be. The dog was sleeping in the yard 10 feet away the whole time. There wasn't anything out there. She went from the gate to the roof of the trailer to the branch.

Olive, did that chicken ever come down?? Can't believe it got so high!

She did. She just flew down like it was nothing. A very ungraceful nothing, but.... nothing.

Olive.....That's along ways up to climb & get her.

Oh, I can assure you that would never, ever happen. She's on her own.

Terro. Nasty stuff, but it works.

Okay, for one, I don't think I like having my name and "fairy goosemother" in the same paragraph. Even "chalet" is suspect.
And two, M2M raises "dinosaur" chickens. And except for the Uggos I got from her, she is a roo magnet.

BTW, I hope you know I'm just poking some fun here.
Errrrrmm.... review the definition of "paragraph." Says the Recovering English Major. (x2 on the "poking some fun").

Morning All! Wasn't yesterday AWESOME!!! I got so much done. :) Barn cleaned, chickens running amuck and shaved down the house cow :) (aka my st bernard)
One of my showgirls went broody about a week ago and is sitting on around 9 eggs. I figured it's warm enough I'll let her sit this time. Also have eggs in the bator that are due to hatch on wednesday. I am thinking of moving the broody into a dog crate in the barn...so do I just pick up the whole nestbox and move her? (it's just a rabbit nestbox thrown on the ground of the coop) My other hens have been adding to her clutch and I don't want her to get any more!
Also...I have a lovely "blue" silkie rooster who needs a new home. He's about 7 months old and is extremely friendly and talkative. He's not a true blue though, he has gold color leaking around his neck. Very handsome boy though! I snapped a picture of him right as he started crowing lol

Yesterday's weather was awesome for sure! The frogs came out and started peeping!

This was a good weekend, got a lot of things accomplished!

Saturday we picked up feed and an incubator (like the one at TSC) at the feed mill. I found out the turkey laying the egg is the BBW ... so I will be incubating her eggs. She's like turkeyzilla and I doubt the eggs could survive her sitting on them or stomping around them and if she did hatch them.... she's sure to crush the chicks! I've only gotten two eggs from her so far. I'm hoping for 2 more before I have to put them in the bator. Can you put turkey and chicken eggs together to hatch? I would stagger the time I put the chicken eggs in to hatch at the same time as the turkeys. There is only a degree difference in temps that I would split... just wondering if I should bother with the chicken eggs for now (I have plenty!). I'm curious what kind of turkey a bbw and royal would produce. The shed got delivered today as well!

I hauled all my tools and junk out of the lean too and fixed up the space for the turkeys to stay. Here's the new digs! They will be kept in here during the breeding season so the hens don't sneak off to lay their eggs. After that, we'll open up that back wall so they can free range the fenced yard, separate from the chickens!

(Tom's tail feathers got damaged bringing him home, but I still think he's pretty!)

The nest box is a wood packing crate my DH brought home from work, He laser cut the circle so the edges are nice and smooth! I painted several coats on it last week. I'm glad the turkey likes it for laying eggs already. The top is going to be an issue cause they like roosting on that. I also put in a higher roost for them after I took the photo. I still have some work to do yet. The boards on the back wall help to keep the rain out though there is lattes and fencing behind it. I also need to close off the rafters with hardware cloth to keep critters out.

Sunday was a marathon assembly day. We built the 10 x 8 metal el cheapo shed in 7 hours! Neither of us took a break or ate all day so we went out for dinner to a place near us.. there was a guy there who was so drunk and loud, I couldn't hear myself think! We decided we didn't want him to monopolize the rest of our evening.. so we went to the next place we love, and they were closed... ugh! So we ended up eating late, at a Mexican restaurant, it was good, but I started paying for it at 1:30 this morning and couldn't fall back to sleep! ..so I'm dead tired this morning.

I had some of those brown perforated metal plant stands that lowes has their plants on in summer. They were brand new, but they were not what the manager wanted. So I have two really cool metal work benches 2' x 6', one has a side hanging box that I can put all my yard tools in! One has a frame on the back that I put peg board on, so I can hang hand tools etc on it... got them for 25$ each. The bench surface is stretched perforated metal, and I was hoping to add some channel underneath so I could slide dirt catch pans under the work surface for potting etc.....Oh yeah he tossed in a 6' shelf too! Now I just need DH to install some lighting in the new shed for me so I can start seeds for the garden!!

I tried to catch up with the weekend posts, but its just too much! So..
If you lost something/someone, I'm sorry
If you found or sold something, that is awesome
Yes, the pictures are cute
Opa, what would we do without you?!
I don't know, but the only stupid question is the one you don't ask!

Silly - Yes, you can incubate turkey and chicken eggs at the same time. Just put the chicken eggs in a week after the turkey eggs.

Neil has a very unique crow. Kind of like a loud and very long 'ur-urrgghh'.

It's not a very melodic crow, is it? It's so quiet now when I go out out in the morning to let everyone out of the coop. Which is guess was the goal, but I do miss hearing the silly guy.

My brain finally caught up and I realized the person yelling for me was Neil! His crowing sounded like he was yelling mother in my just woken up stupor.

I think I need another banty or 2 to keep her company during the day.

I think my little bantam needs a friend too. She's the only one except for my Roo. The two do chum around together & she mingles well with the others but a lot of the time she just kinda hangs around on the side lines doing her own thing.

I think I need a little friend for one of my girls, too. Cadbury isn't a banty but is much smaller than the other girls and at the bottom of the pecking order. Neil was her only friend and she used to use him for cover around the feeder by positioning herself on the other side of Neil from the hen who was picking on her at the time. Of course she is the sweetest chicken.

It's funny how the whole flock dynamic changed when Neil left. The girls are not as tight a flock and seem to spread out and do their own thing more often.
