Well I am visiting Robin on Saturday. Maybe I can get there early enough for her first bottle feeding with the lambs so I am be home my noon to set the eggs. Playing with the lambs is a MUST.

The farm said to either keep and try to hatch them or just throw them.out. So of course I'm gonna try to hatch them, but I'm a little unsure what to do when its time to put the first batch on lockdown. I only have 1LG incubator. Do I keep turning batch #2 while the others are on lockdown? And what about the humidity? Please help. :

Yes, definately try! It only takes a few days until you can candle them and know if it's a loss. It's surprising sometimes what those eggs can live through! It's tricky when you're doing two batches at the same time...when I was putting new eggs in every saturday (after collecting all week) and keeping a steady flow of hatches I fired up a second incubator for hatching. You could try hatching them in the same one and keep turning the others...but you will lose heat and humidity every time you open the bater and that may affect your hatch rate.

There's nothin like gettin lectured by an old farm wife. LOVE her..I was so INNOCENT>...."Sarah, I CANT kill them"..and she says, "Nonsense- you just grab their neck and give them a swing.."

I am a wuss...I use a 22G on my rabbits and I use a hatchet on the birds. I tried doing the swinging technique on a rabbit once...and let's just say it didn't work out

Sooooo....I still have this pretty lil' roo sitting here needing a home...((wink wink, nudge nudge)) lol
Last night I ended up running my daughter to the urgent care because she has been complaining about her left ear and sure enough there's an ear infection going on. I work at the hospital I took her to and the ER was super busy all day yesterday and wasn't any better last night! We got home around 1030pm and the kids went to bed. Unfortunately my son didn't get the memo last night about how normal people sleep at 4am...so he was wide awake yabbering his mouth off. Ugh...so tired this morning.

makes me wish I drank coffee.
I moved the broody hen into a dog kennel in the barn last night...she gave me a dirty look the whole time I was moving her and the nextbox (together) but didn't budge lol. She was still sitting on them when I went out right before dark so hopefully I didn't upset her too much. Broody hens are a much less expensive and time consuming way to hatch eggs LOL. By the way, does anyone know how much it costs to run an incubator? My husband gripes about the incubator running all the time and I've told him there's now way it runs up an electric bill that much!

Eggs due to start hatching tomorrow!!

Most table top incubator are 25 watt. If your incubator runs for 23 days that would be 552 hours of use for a total of 13.8 amp hours use. Check you bill to see how much you pay per amp hour. Mine figured out to $8.52
