Ivermectin - you can eat eggs, no problem.
And as Olive said, it covers several types of worms.

Ferret - what area are you in? Many of us have found vets that will fecal check our chickens. And from that we can gain information about the health of that chicken at a more reasonable cost.
I have a list of vets and will try to p.m. you one near you, just not sure where you are.

Chicken Grandma, I'm in Clio, about 20 miles north of Flint.
I can ask my local vet in the morning if she could do a fecal check for worms, but I know she doesn't treat sick livestock so I can't just bring a chicken in for a check up.

Oh yes, and Sarah, I am too inexperienced to make any comment on your chicks, but I did want to say, beautiful photographs! They are stunning, great job, what kind of camera do you have?

Thanks, I appreciate the compliments!! It's actually just a Kodak Easy Share camera, nothing too fancy. I just turned it to the "close up" mode and it does seem to take really clear sharp photos that way. Plus I had a really bright lamp on in the vicinity which I'm sure helped also.

Since my chicks are still in the house, do you guys think it's ok to leave the light off them during the night? It's like 70 in here & they snuggle together. Since this is my first time being chicken momma I worry that I'm gonna wake up to find them dead or something

HH- So sorry about your hen.

Boy, was I busy today!

First, I finished cleaning out the rooster's coop this morning that I built in 11-10. I had washed it out with a water hose, then after it had dried out a bit, I put the siding on to finally finish it. I will disinfect it with Vickron tomorrow. I have used strap pieces of siding to cover the coop.
I will be using this coop for a grow-out coop. It will be for chicks that have feathered out and older, until they are ready to go to the breeder coop or the henhouse.

Next, I had to go to the neighbor's to get our 3020 John Deere tractor back, so I can till the field, so we can sow the pasture mix for the cow and steers, as the soil was dry enough to till!!! IN MARCH!!! I usually am not able to till the fields until mid-May!! We had to jump the tractor to get it started, and I had to get fuel for it, then pump some grease in the tiller, then was ready to go!



The calves made me laugh with their antics as I was tilling-


I had manage to finish tilling the field as it was getting dark, it was cool to see each star and planets come out, as the sun went down. I will take a picture of the finished work tomorrow after I till the garden too.

Oh, yeah, by the way, I will be happy to give the Washington peeps the hot temps we have be getting, I am sick of the heat! Go ahead and bash me in the head for being generous with OUR weather, when you guys are being stringy.

Robin, remember when you were here last week to pick up the chicks and we saw the hawks fling around? Well today they had chicken dinner. R.I.P. Gabby. She was one of my oldest EE's. This is the first time I have ever lost a chicken to a hawk.

That is so sad Laura. So sorry.

Whoa! Yes, yes, yes! It is absolutely, positively possible for one chicken in a flock to be carrying a detrimental parasite load while others are not. This is why I repeatedly preach how ineffective group FECs are.

What are FEC's?

HH, sorry to hear about your Gabby. That is my biggest fear if we allow our chickens to free range (if we ever get any)

Farmerboy, great pics of the coop. Enjoyed the pics of you tractoring as well. You must not have had as much rain as we have had in SE MI. We still have water standing all over the place. I tried tilling last year at the end of April, and the front end of our 4WD tractor sunk into the mud all the way up to the front tires. Almost thought the mud was going to come all the way up to the engine exhaust pipe. Thought I was going to have to get the truck to pull out the tractor, but somehow I miraculously was able to work the loader to back up out of the mud. We have had to pull the tractor out of the mud in other places though in the middle of the summer. We just have a super high water table where I live. I gotta disagree w/ you though about the warm weather - I have been working out of town all week, and haven't even gotten to enjoy the nice weather. By the time I get home, it will probably be cold and cloudy again!

I had to put mine up on the ramp... I had to put them away for a few days, but once they figured out the ramp... It really only took me putting them on it, instead of putting them away, and I only put a few on the ramp, they got it. SO, Instead of putting them away, put them on the ramp... They may already have it figured out, but since you are putting them up, they are just waiting for that. LOL.

Yup.... a neighbor down the road had a dog that would not eat unless she sat by him because as a puppy when she fed him she always sat and watched.

I used equimax horse paste on mine, a pea size for reg and 1/2 of the pea size for banties, no repeat. (says kills in one dose?) This was what was available in my feed store, and i had definite tapeworm with the roundworm, so that's why the mega wormer. I did get the dose and idea from someone i trusted off BYC. Same thing about holding off on egg eating.

Would never thought of this.....I'd of thought it would be too strong.

What are FEC's?

Yup, buy the time you get home,we will be back down to the 60s...low 70s... then in the 60s most of next week. Calling for a high of 88 here today. Total yuck.... Lol.

Total yuck but perfect temps for cleaning the coop. I didn't get do it last week so this will be perfect....as long as no rain is in the forecast.
