I have been wondering if the mild winter is gonna make for more predators this year.....? Looks like my bluebirds are nesting up, so kits aren't far behind, are they?

Also, i was thinking this morning that it wouldn't be too hard to throw a few more pussywillows in the cup if someone wanted one. I would need to know what one you wanted, and how tall you want it.

Yea, I also saw on the news last night that by the end of the month/beginning of April we'll be back down to our normal-for-this-time-of-year temps, at least for a little while. Boo hoo. I'm so anxious to get my garden planted but I know it's still way too early!

I see someone else also suggested...could you drink tea? It still has a little caffeine in it; might not be much but better than none, and might help soothe your stomach instead of upsetting it like acidic coffee does. I'm with you though, I might die w/o coffee in the morning as well.

Got back home and discovered another big coon in one of the traps I have set around the chicken coops. I think it is probably wise to just keep traps set and maybe reduce the population. I think if folks new just how many coons frequent their yards they would be shocked.

I think people would be shocked too. We have a motion light in our back yard and it comes on a couple times a night usually due to those buggers and the various stray cats around the area. I dont care if they're around, I just hope my coop area is coon proof enough!

We got the coop moved to the backyard where it will live...the thing weighs a metric ton I think. I'll post some pics soon. I started painting it last night and got about 50 new mosquito bites in the meantime. I also heard a red tailed hawk while out there...I was afraid they'd come back again. We had a whole family of them move in last summer. Good thing I've planned a roof for my chicken yard. Wish I didn't have to work today so I could enjoy the nice weather again!

Well not too bad. I ate breakfast. Scrambled eggs and toast. So far, no nausea.
I think I am going to run to Home Depot..just to look and ponder what I would be doing if I could be doing it..lol.

I think that my kids did a pretty good job yesterday, but now that I feel better I see what has not been done. i think threatening to put out the rabbit and the guinea pig FOREVER just may get their cage cleaned out. if not, I think I can manage to drag their cage outside onto the deck.

Maybe I will do that so when they come home, they will know I mean it.

I just candled the eggs in my incubator that I set on Saturday. Too soon to throw anything out- but I am a little excited to see that the few eggs I added from my girls are developing...which means the Uggos' knew what they were doing. Polish Uggos? Oh my. And a Silkie/Uggo. heh heh heh.

Hi all. I haven't been on due to mid terms, marauding children, signing house papers (Inspection tomorrow! Close in June!), and in general just completely crazy. I did my best to read as many posts between the last time I was on and this page but I may have skipped some. Sorry!

Mom2- Like other said, don't feel guilty. Hope that med works for you and those cages all get cleaned so you don't have to.

I am jealous of all the adorable chicks and eggs everyone has. Our area is going to allow 3 layers only but we might stash some meat birds here and there which would be in the freezer before anyone really complained and they got a response. The variety I am looking at are Delaware, Maran, and my sister in law is looking for Chantecler. I don't think our winters are that bad but she has me rethinking my choices now.

Next week we'll build our coop and place our order for chicks We've gotten permission to have the chicks here to get to the age for sleeping in their own coop before we move.

The weather is awesome here, just wet.

My biostats prof is one of the top guys in the country and he always says that. The exam was about selecting the most powerful analysis and justifying that test, then do the work and decide to accept or reject the null hypothesis. We've been meeting every week about my project and the homework. I'm getting lots of help but I'm still worried about passing the course, it's the toughest one in the science department.


M2M, does your medical recovery require driving all over town? The drugstore? Cat food store? Home Depot? Is that how you take it easy?

I think I might take a quick trip to the big box store and see what they have for available for a living privacy fence to block off the neighbor's view of my "farm".

Ok... here is the agenda for today...

1) clean the old kiddie pop pool so the kids can use it for a little while today. Thank the Lord for well water...
2) cut the holes into the coop wall on the littles coop, and also on the big coop for windows and added ventilation. I did not do them last year when I built the coop since winter was coming. BUT, I need them now.I am going to hinge the wood cut outs, so they can open and close as needed... For like, um... well winter comes to mind. LOL. I have hardware cloth to cover these. My poor girls were actually panting last night, and I felt so bad that I left a large door open all night long after I staple chicken death wire over the opening. Makes me very happy I have an elevated coop, and the door I chose to leave open has nothing under it for anything to climb and opens to the winter run, so nothing can get up on the roof and come down to the door that way. I couldn't believe how warm it got in there. It'll be nice when the trees are leafed out all the way to provide that shade.
3) start a fire
4) pretend that I am enjoying it all. LOL

I am also going to fit the bottom of the gate to the deck with an extension that goes practically to the floor to prevent the dogs from going out to the yard. They have a potty station on the deck that they will use, but when I go to work, my mom is afraid to let them out since Rotten Ruby seems to be able to find any weakness in the fence line. I am blaming it on the beagle in her. Who ever thought it would be, "like totally awesome!" to mix a pug and a beagle? That person needs medication.

Anyway! Enjoy the heat. Really not looking forward to that 90 degrees today.

OH, and 5) fill the ducks old kiddie pool with a few inches of water for the chickens to stand in if they want. OH OH OH, stick Mr. Fluffers in there and drown some more of the buggers! He has lost almost all of his foot feathers... I hope they come back in nice after a molt... Poor baby.

OH, and Looks like both of the Aster(evil wry neck hen)/Fluffers chicks are both boys. Wouldn't you know it. SO, I guess no large green eggs for me...

Sounds like your surgeon was...um... How can I say this nicely...unprofessional? But your regular doc sounds like he's on top of things...whew! Somebody's got to keep an eye on you. Been praying for you. All the symptoms had me worried. So glad they r getting things ironed out. You feel better soon ok?!
