Another hot one! Have to go for a walk early cuz my Keeshond has a thick coat and hates summer.
Redtail hawks don't migrate, so they are here all winter. I see them sitting on the poles all winter long. Had a Merlin hawk for a couple of weeks flying around, but didn't seem to be interested in the chickens. Think he lost his way migrating, cuz they are not common here.
Mom, you really need to study up on what "taking it easy" really means!! Sit and stay!!

There's a fox hole in the side of a sandy hill half way up my driveway (1/4 long driveway). Last year it seemed abandoned, even my dogs took one sniff and ignored it. Drove to town this morning, DH pointed and said "see what the fox has been doing?" there is a huge mound of fresh sand out in front of that hole. Yeah, I think some predators may be prolific this year.

I have been wondering if the mild winter is gonna make for more predators this year.....? Looks like my bluebirds are nesting up, so kits aren't far behind, are they?

Also, i was thinking this morning that it wouldn't be too hard to throw a few more pussywillows in the cup if someone wanted one. I would need to know what one you wanted, and how tall you want it.

lol, I need to get the burn pit cleaned out... so, starting a fire. There is so much moisture in the pit from the leaves that are in there... holding water... that I guess its more likely to be "start a smolder." I do not like smores... go figure, since I like all the ingredients... just not all together.

Buckeyes do really well, too.

The variety I am looking at are Delaware, Maran, and my sister in law is looking for Chantecler. I don't think our winters are that bad but she has me rethinking my choices now.

You are correct that they don't migrate, but they dont stay in the same area all the time. Last summer was the first year we had them hanging around our area, and they left as soon as they raised their babes. So I figure either a) one was passing by (only heard the time time) or b)parents are returning to start a new nest or c)last years babies are back to start their own family. As long as they don't touch my chickens I dont care if they're around either!!

I'm currently on my 2 wks break from school although doesn't really feel like a break since I have to just work more, which sucks. Get to start my externships on April 4th, then graduate in June & I'm so pumped. I hope I can find a job right away and not too far from home.

Yup.... a neighbor down the road had a dog that would not eat unless she sat by him because as a puppy when she fed him she always sat and watched.

Lazy bums! Thanks M.sue and Nova, I will see what pushing them up the ramp does.

Total yuck but perfect temps for cleaning the coop. I didn't get do it last week so this will be perfect....as long as no rain is in the forecast.

I thought it was nice for cleaning the coop... until I was cleaning the coop, sweltering, and cursing the early heat!

Can't say I would want to be doing it now that it is even hotter, hehe. At least you can always wait a few days yet for it to cool down again if it is too hot.

My Samoyed, GR and Cata-Healer all get that 'summer haircut". They are so much more comfortable.
