I am praying for Lucas!

Sarah your chickens will be all over you, under your feet begging for treats, looking in your back door. If you give chickens treats, even totally wild chickens will fall in love with you and sit in your lap. They think with their stomachs!

Good to know, thanks! :)

No, he wasn't a jerk. He is just a normal guy trying to do his job. He did try to pull that "official" BS with me to start, but I made it pretty clear that his badge didn't frighten me. By the end, we were chatting just like normal people would do if they met through mutual friends.

As far as socialization, I'm not a model source. I tend to interact with all of the critters I meet and have always had good luck in getting them to tolerate me. The ducklings I have are wild mallards and I want them to leave when they can fend for themselves but when they scooted out today I was able to call them back with some peas and calling to them. My chickens are generally more accepting of human contact since I started groping them.

It might also be a breed thing. The silver laced Wyandottes I have in the brooder are pretty flighty while the ISA and BSL's don't seem to be all that skittish with me.

And while I'm typing this, my cat is draped over my shoulder like a sack of warm purr. I swear she has no bones in her body.
OMG I love your cat! I guess the way I read your post when he visited came across to me like he was being a jerk because of the "being official" stuff. But that explanation makes me think further that your theory may be right about the phony ticket. Heres hoping!!

I'm reading the ticket I got, I can't tell if it says "Storey of chicks" or "storag of chicks". <sic> It also states that I'm in violation ordinance number "my address here".
Would it be too much to hope for that the officer issued a nonsense ticket knowing that it is unenforceable as written?

I'm thinking that I should take a dozen eggs over to his neighbor (a girl that I grew up with). Or is that just too darn cheeky?

One question..if it is a bogus ticket..then why point out the bare grass and the 'pond violation'..and want to see in your garage?
I tend to be suspicious.

Does ticket have a number on it? Is it written on 'official ticket paper'? He told you to call for a court date...that definitely would be real...

My chicks have arrived!! got the call from the PO before 7AM they are in the brooder and looking well all alive on arrival

Freedom Rangers from Freedom Ranger hatchery they were super responded very Quickly every time I E-mailed them,!,,,,Got to go check my babys again, some started to eat right away, after their drink, some did not, got to make sure every one finds the water

So I have a question about chick socialization. I'm not big on letting the chickens run around the house (too much carpet) but I want them also to be friendly. I only really hold them for a few minutes a few times a day, and I talk to them a lot, and watch them, and put my hands in the brooder often. Do you think Im around them enough to get them friendly? I worry that they'll end up too shy or wild if I don't interact with them more than this. What do you guys think? They're about 3 wks old.

Mine are not willing to sit in my lap but they all come running when I go in the yard or drive up the driveway, I swear they know witch car I drive. when they go outside start callig them and giving them treats and they learn fast to come running like grandma said they think with their stomachs

I don't remember who posted it, but is someone's coworker's son, if I remember correctly. Who is 7mo and who had to have open heart surgery. There was a complication however, so they're requesting prayers for him. HTH!

That is Wellie all over, poor guy. Oh well his days are already numbered.

I put a band aid on little Yeti's feet to hold the one leg in. He managed to get out of it twice. I did it up again this morning. I guess I'm not hopeful, I have never had much luck when it came to spraddle legs. Just my luck it's the one I named.

Busy day ahead hopefully there aren't too many pages by the time I can check back. Have a great, dreary day!
