This house was originally built using a wood burning furnace in the lower level. Base board heaters in the two upper bedrooms... and an individual electric wall heater in the bath. About 15 years ago, new propane furnace was put in, and they ran the duct work thru the ceiling instead of under the floors, where there would have been room... They just did it the quick route. No air con.

Heat rises, so, when the vents are blowing hot air down from the ceiling... floors stay cold. Lower walk outs with ceiling vents, floors stay freezing. Here at my house, I can put a cup of milk on the ledge that runs along the wall, or even just set it on the coffee table, in my lower level, and it will remain refrigerated... the heat ducts run thru the crawl space in the attic, and even covered with insulation, the floors remain cold. The vents are also on an outside wall in both bedrooms, and they only get warm if I turn on the space heater. The guy who built this house, he was from down south, and thats where they put them... in the ceiling. This is the first house I have ever seen or lived in here that has the heat ducts in the ceiling instead of at floor level.
Ahhhh...duhhhhhh me.....I was thinking of ceiling fan.....sorry!

Heat rises, so putting heating vents in the ceiling makes no logical sense. Perfect place for a/c vents though. Problem is most places can't either fit or afford 2 sets of vents to have a perfect system. So if your HVAC is in the attic so are most of the vents and if your HVAC is in the basement, then they go in the floors or the in the walls along the floor.

Yahhh....duhhh me again......I was thinking ceiling fan!

Our vents are all on the floor, outer walls, for the heat flows inward. Sorry about the stupidity wasn't thinking!

And I have to ask, which breed lays those nice chestnut colored ones?

Teeville - Those nice dark eggs are from a Black Copper Marans.

It just amazes me how these conversations take so many twists and turns. The lurkers must think we are all crazy.

Probably not at any grocery store, sadly. But if you have a co-op, Whole Paycheck (er Whole Foods) or other natural foods store they should have it. Online is also an option http://search.kingarthurflour.com/search.jsp?N=0&rt=p&Ntt=spelt

Sadly since it's not widely available it can be expensive. But, because of its texture, it really is my go-to cracker flour unless I'm making something like papadams.

Oh and maybe I should be clear it's more like the White Cheddar Cheez-its that the yellow ones. Still addictive.

How does the chicken poop get into things you'd never expect it to get? I decided to clean the garage shelves up... I shoulda maybe just burned it down. Not really. But holy cow! How did them girls manage to poop in boxes that were closed?
