Had fec check done for leila. Vet said nothing major. Can worm her if i want while shes broody to keep it under control. Take her out several times a day to feed her. Feed her more high pro chick feed/meat raiser. Or break her.
Nova - what does 'nothing major' mean?

I have a hen that went broody. She still eats but would rather I feed her in the nest (yeah right). Since I don't have any fertilized eggs I'm going to start breaking her this weekend. I think that might be the best thing for your girl if she is won't leave to eat.

Mom 2em All, I sent you a PM. I just went out and they are already mini FGs. Thay all look to be sand like mom and dad. On Sat, or Sun, I'll take another pic just to keep your interest up. Too bad you are so far away, I'd bring out one of the older bunnies to visit you.

Nancy, it means that she has a normal load... apparently, all birds will have worms at some level, and there is an acceptable load. I don't get it. But she says that there was not enough in her stool for her to think that is the reason for her low weight or to be concerned. no mites or lice. She said if I felt comfortable worming her, as she is broody right now, there'd be no egg withdrawal, just keep her nest clean, keep taking her out to eat, she will not do it on her own, didn't with the last ones either, and because she's already so small, i need to keep on it. feed her egg yolk, yogurt, keep acv in the water...
I understand there is a normal parasite load... I just don't see how she can have been eating so much the last few weeks and still be skinny. I don't get it. SO, I am going to valzeban her anyway, since its slow, and will not stress her. I don't want her to have any normal/acceptable load. I wish I got Dr. Bader. He's not in, but I think I would have prefered him to have done it... So, I am going to worm.

Just started a modified A-frame duck coop. I got the idea from a pig pen that is used to haul around on open fields (on skids). The design is pretty neat. The original has a door on the front roof (6/12 pitch) that opens to let in light, and the back roof (12/12) goes to grade like an a-frame. I framed it out and gave it a wire floor for starters. This way I can slide in a plank for the ducks to sit on but also keep water inside for them to spill thru the wire

Nova, Don't use Valbazen. It has a very narrow safty margin which means it can cause damage to organs, namely liver and kidneys. It is expensive and you cannot eat the eggs for 2 weeks after.

I know there is one person on BYC that recommends it all the time but I believe he is a sales rep for that company. Our vet says that is a poor choice of wormer and why would chicken owners be using that when there are better safer choices now?

Do you know what type of worms she has a 'normal load' of? That way you can wisely choose a wormer.

Ivermectin is a safe wormer for birds and you can eat their eggs with no interruption.
Fenbendazole or Safeguard is a newer version of Valbazen and it does not cause liver/kidney damage, that is why they created SAFEguard. Because they were losing animals after worming with Valbazen. If you have a frail bird like little Leila (can you tell she is one of my favorites?

) then using a safer wormer would be wiser!

I do have some good news today. We are going to be adding to the family. We are getting the goats from babigyrl's friend next week. DH and my daughters are super excited. We are already looking into ways of making goat cheese and mozzarella.

My entire house, walls and ceiling are knotty pine. Only the floor is carpet or vinyl. If I put in oak flooring (which I really love) this place would be an echo chamber. I've got to replace the carpet and vinyl in the great room this year but DH doesn't want carpet and somehow and entire great room (Living, dining room and kitchen) in vinyl just seems wrong. But everything else I've read about/looked at: cork, bamboo, laminated is either too $$$$, too brown (knotty pine, remember?) or inadequate for dog claws.

I wish DH wasn't so dead set against carpet! No idea what to do!

I got rid of my carpet years ago. I put in solid oak flooring in every room. All that is left is the kitchen, but that will wait until school is done. I'm doing a complete demo/rebuild, right down to the studs.

Swampducks - our whole house was knotty pine when I grew up North of Grand Rapids. My mom had a really hard time with flooring and decorating also. She went with a lot of olive green, vinyl flooring and curtains.
