Alright guys and gals, I have a question....how do you clean chicken poop off a chicken? Somehow one of my girls (and of course it had to be the WHITE leghorn) got poop smeared all over her wings and chest and now she looks and smells terrible. Any tips on how I can clean her off? I tried wiping w/a damp paper towel and that was fairly unsuccessful. Let me know what I should try, or if I should just let it come off on its own? Grosss!!

My daughter and I took our white leghorn Lossie to Chowhound Pet Store once and gave her a bath and a blow dry in the dog washing section. People loved to see a chicken in Chowhound Pet Store and Lossie loved the attention. Then she came home to a crate with a warming lamp in until she was completely dry and furious!

Great memory for my daughter and me. (we did this in the Summer and we still were very careful not to let her get chilled and only to wash the parts of her that really needed it. we used Johnson's baby shampoo.)

My entire house, walls and ceiling are knotty pine. Only the floor is carpet or vinyl. If I put in oak flooring (which I really love) this place would be an echo chamber. I've got to replace the carpet and vinyl in the great room this year but DH doesn't want carpet and somehow and entire great room (Living, dining room and kitchen) in vinyl just seems wrong. But everything else I've read about/looked at: cork, bamboo, laminated is either too $$$$, too brown (knotty pine, remember?) or inadequate for dog claws.
wish DH wasn't so dead set against carpet! No idea what to do!

You can get a light finish. I have 3/4" made by Bruce and it has been holding up well with 3 dogs and 3 clawed cats.
Reduce echo with wall hangings like quilted pieces or wovens and rugs here and there. Perhaps new cushy furniture.

Ah Raz, I could put in wood flooring but I am really, Really, REALLY sick of BROWN. It's why my picture window has dark green curtains, the side windows have curtains with blue lilacs, white and burgundy peonies, and green leaves all over them, why I made my island countertop green, burgundy and cream colored tile. I still can't believe the guy who bought it before me and "refurbished it" put in beige carpet, beige vinyl flooring and FAKE wood countertops! He could have gotten colored cabinets but but in hickory ones. I do love the cabinets, but they could have been stained a color rather than maple color!

At this point I think I am just going to have to go with vinyl all over and then buy colorful throw rugs. The reason DH is against carpeting is; "the dogs poop and puke all over carpeting would be stupid". Well, hey dear, I had a PUPPY last year, he's well trained now, and while I admit there is the occasional puke incident (why oh why did Ziggy bring home the equivalent of 3 whole sets of deer legs this winter?!!!) this is why I bought a carpet cleaner! But he is not a dog person, or any kind of pet person really, so what's a gal to do?

I have to agree with your husband
Swampducks. I think with pets it is better not to have carpet.

Sorry to break the 'sisterhood' but dogs puking on carpet.........ew...

Got the yard mowed and probably should drag the sweeper around it tomorrow. The growing rate was very irregular so some spots barely needed it and others were just shy of needing to be baled.

Sure wish that I could have won last night's Mega Millions. I could certainly put the the money to good use. But maybe I'll win Friday substantially more money. I'd probably buy each of you a new chicken or two if I win.

You need to shop around. I use Lumber Liquidators for Oak flooring. Usually I buy unfinished wide (6") flooring and mill a round-over on all four edges. The result is beautiful! It's not the 25 year finish though. If that's requested I get the standard (narrow) finished board with anywhere between 15 and 25 year finish (BS) which can be any shade you want. No echo chambers I know of. Usually throw rugs cover everything up anyay. BTW, I put bamboo in a 12 by 10 bathroom two years ago and it's till going strong. Just have to be careful of standing water. Anyway, you can't beat wood! Actually bamboo is grass!

Mom 2em All, I sent you a PM. I just went out and they are already mini FGs. Thay all look to be sand like mom and dad. On Sat, or Sun, I'll take another pic just to keep your interest up. Too bad you are so far away, I'd bring out one of the older bunnies to visit you.

I got it..my Bunnicula was a sandy FG.......
Where are you located? Cuz if you are crazyfar away...you are coming to Chickenstock, arent you? Needs to be a girl. ..I mean, IF you manage to keep my interest up and all....

I have a hen that went broody. She still eats but would rather I feed her in the nest (yeah right). Since I don't have any fertilized eggs I'm going to start breaking her this weekend. I think that might be the best thing for your girl if she is won't leave to eat.
I always put a dish next to my broodies. Seems to keep their weight up better. My girls are good at zoning out and not getting up. PLUS, lately, they seem to get up after two weeks and then quit. Forget to go back. This way, they eat, they stay..lol

I want a finished floor! Right now I have an UNfinished floor. Splinters here are the norm. We would have to get something that could stand up to two hundred pound dogs running across it. I saw a dark shiny cherrywood flooring that I fell IN LOVE WITH...all the others paled in comparison. Looked like it was covered in glass, it was so shiny...

Most expensive stuff in the store, though.

It must have looked like I was on here all day! I came in to discover the computer asleep with my BYC site still up. I was interrupted earlier and forgot what I was doing. Since it is no whine Wednesday I have kept my whining to myself but yes I have whined ALL day! I have two root canals tomorrow and am VERY nervous. My son saw me worrying and asked "Mom why are you such a wimp?" Helpful kid of mine.

My little chicks out with mama are pigs! Last night as I tucked them in they all had crops the size of golf balls. I was a little worried they got into something non food but this morning they were empty. Tonight I went to close up the coop and again they all have big old golf ball crops.

My broody I'm trying to break is still in her cage. How can you tell when it is safe to let her out? She still seems grouchy.

I found another guinea egg today!

My broody hen's eggs finally hatched! She has two cute lil' poofy silkies. A white and a black(?). The black is a tiny little thing cause it came out of a pullet egg. I brought them inside and put her back in with the rest of the birds. She wasn't happy and took it out on one of the white roosters lol. Going to candle my eggs tonight and will candle the shipped-in-eggs on Friday.
