go to your album... click the pic you want, copy it, then come back and paste it.

I am going to keep taking her out of the nest box, I think with the littles she has now tramping her all the time, it will help. LOL. The silkie eggs under her now, they are not that important. Heck. She has only sat on them for 2 days. I figure, I can just go ahead, and sneak some bantams under her next week, and get some fake eggs from the craft store tomorrow. HEHEHE. She's a chicken... and a silly one at that. I cant beleive shes broody AGAIN when her littles are only going on 2 months old! They won't be 2 months until April 1-2. Just crazy.

Why did you take her babies away? I had 2 broodies hatch in winter, and they did just fine. kept them closed off from the others, with food and water and a 75 watt red light over the chick water to keep it liquid... Well anyway. I'd be pi$$y too if my babies got taken away after 3 weeks of sitting still... lol

I am doing hatching right now and it's easier to bring them in and let her go back to laying then to have her worry about keeping babies warm. I only have a couple showgirl hens so every one of them counts when it comes to laying...and she's my best layer so having her tied up on eggs the last few weeks has cut back on how many eggs I'm getting. Plus I don't want to have to keep them seperated from the flock with a heat light. She can go back to production and I'll raise them.

She is broody all the time so she'll be over it in a day or two lol.

I candled my eggs tonight and it looks like 18 of the 30 are developing...not as many as I'd hoped...but I not bad. On friday I'll candle my "imported eggs"...hoping for even better results. I need a better rooster/hen ratio and I've got a new NN silkie roo lined up for Fowlfest!

I am really tempted to take another sample back to have Bader check it. I don't know. I just didn't feel like the girl who did it was competent on what is acceptable or not for a chicken... I JUST KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG! She was still losing weight before she went broody. I think I had said that though... that she was still to skinny after her babies hatched and she started coming out of the broody coop. Skeeter is completely opposite. She's put the weight back on already. Leila hasn't. So... worms in general.

On another note... Check out this ad...

Oh, ok. Totally understand that. And I think I might know what you mean with the broody all the time thing...

Early this evening while I really was at riding lessens with my daughter my son calls me and tells me that one of my Isa Browns died. I asked was it a hawk, a dog, what? He didn't know said dad just found it by the back door. I asked him to put his dad on so I could get a better idea. DH said he came home from work let them out to free range and he went out to the garden to till some old plants that didn't get pulled in the fall. He was out there about 45 minutes tilling away & the chickens were mingling around the yard as usual. He found it by the back door of the garage when he was coming in the house. He checked it over, no wounds, no loose feathers laying about, nothing. He then flipped it around and noticed a bulge from it's vent. Said the bulge was about the size of a large marble. No blood, not inflamed, just a marble sized bulge. I had him put her in the shed till I got home to inspect for myself. I'm assuming she died from a prolapse vent. I showed pics of what one looks like to DH and said it looked nothing like what he saw. Said she just had a swollen vent with a large marble sized bulge. I feel so bad because I didn't notice anything prior.....I had no signs. They all were acting normal, eating, drinking and their usual active selves this afternoon when I went to give them a treat. Can this happen this fast? I know that you can treat one but like I said I didn't notice anything unusual prior.

Here is a pic....Warning...A Little Graphic for those that are squeamish.

I'm assuming that after she died and by the time I got home which was an hour & half later that the prolapse started to shrink back down. I don't know. I feel blahhhhh......

Sorry to those are squeamish.......it was just suppose to post the ulr.

So the poopy chicken must have cleaned herself off or her friends helped because when I brought her in to try and clean her up, she was pretty clean already. I also wanted to post a pic of my coop in progress, tell me what you guys think? The only things I have left to do is attach the roof and put in roosts & a chicken ramp. Been wanting to do that the last couple days but its been so windy and cold!

It's in an old dog pen that's part of the outside of the shed...I thought it would be a good place out of the weather. It will also have a run that's attached to their yard around the corner of the shed. I cant wait to get them out there. Would you guys recommend that I put some straw on the bottom as well as in the nest boxes? I hope they like it when they get to stay out there lol...I also have updated 3 wk old pics of the chicks:

I love my girls! And maybe boys...lol. They are kind of ugly right now though, growing out of their cute little fluff :( What do you guys think, are one, or both of those wyandottes roos? I hope not...
