Sorry the second shot is so blurry. Any opinions?

Mom2,
Glad the colonoscopy went ok, sorry about the other kid. It just never ends when ur a mom huh? We're just gettin' started....my girl is 4 and my boy is 8 months....love the pics. That little gray is adorable.

Bianca...

second one sure does look like a roo comb...

Thanks,EllieMae! My kids are as different as night and day. I wouldnt trade my family for anything in the world, but there are days where running off to a deserted island somewhere sounds sooooooooooo sweet.

There are actually THREE grey chicks in those pictures :)

Oh! Almost forgot...

I put up a fence to keep the chickens and dogs out of the area where I have ornamental grasses and cat tails coming up....

You can see how well that worked. Can you see the dirt on the Silkies' back?
Also dont mind my husbands practice deer in the corner... it has done wonders scaring the *^%&^% out of me when I am out there with a flash-light, looking over the yard....

eta:
I am very excited to announce that we are picking up privacy fence panels this weekend to replace the ones in this picture and to go all the way across the backyard. NO MORE seeing how my neighbors have lawns while I dont..oh wait, I mean No more of my neighbors seeing the chickens. yeah, thats it...the grass is always greener on the other side..unless you are looking into my yard..

Do any of the Michigan members have rouen or khaki campbell ducklings for sale? My son wants to add both to his flock. Thanks.

Elliemae - You mean you're still looking for a silkie to use as a broody? Something to keep in mind: not all silkie hens go broody, but that do tend to be more broody than a lot of breeds. If you're going to buy a grown hen for brooding it would make more sense, imo, to simply put out a want ad for a hen who tends to brood well, of any breed. Of all the hens we've had the silkies have never been the best brooders, my BA and LBs have been much better and they can cover more chicks. Once you have her you'll just want to watch for signs of broodiness. They'll stick right around the nest, pluck feathers to add to the nest box, chatter and growl quietly, etc. Once she's showing signs of wanting to brood you can provide her with a nest, eggs, water and food nearby and just let her do her thing. HTH!

Raz - Not that I would ever self-medicate --

-- but if I did it'd be with 800 mg of Ibuprofen, 1 strong muscle relaxer and two glasses of wine just before bed. And it's not like I have experience with this or anything, but if I did I bet I'd tell you that I've never once had an injury that took more than three consecutive nights of said self-medication to heal, good as new.

ETA: And by "just before bed" I mean give yourself a good 9 hours to sleep thereafter. Not that I would know, but I imagine you could easily oversleep on any such type of self-medication and completely miss your morining, eh hem, responsibilities.
