This was on the Washington thread...

It's a bit long but worth a read.

I wonder if we just vaccinated chicks at the hatchery for Cocci, MG, Fowl Pox, if we could control disease with vaccines. That has worked in humans. All the tracking sounds cumbersome and probably would not work as long as we backyard chicken farmers are shipping birds and eggs around the country.

Hmmm!?!?!? Well, better than living without panties I suppose.

True, but if the eggs are handled properly, and the vaccines made more readily available to small flock owners, in an amount that is more fitting to us that is, then we could start putting a halt to some of the issues. But as long as vaccines are sold in amounts that are unusable to some one like me, who only has 28 chickens, 8 of which will become Sunday dinner in a few weeks, so 20 chickens... And vaccines come in amounts for people with 500 chickens(totally guessing amounts here), and we hatch out our own eggs, or purchased eggs... Well, you get what I am saying I hope... I can understand transporting live birds across state lines, but eggs? Isn't the big one like MG pretty much only transferable thru eggs in the last several days of incubation? Fowl pox is transferable thru wild birds... well all of them are. Ah anyway... Its just another control tactic...

sorry about your chick Mom2

thank you.

Just got back from Tractor Supply. They had a TON of Isa Browns and Red New Hampshires...

and six little silver and white banties that I would have gotten if my husband wasnt with me- only because someone on this thread had asked about those, had one and it passed away...just cant remember who.

However I had parental supervision with me, so I couldnt impulse purchase.

DID get TWO bags of chick starter/grower and a bag of oyster shells and a stuffed chicken for my daughter. They had those stuffed chickens in a rabbit hutch looking out, and she wanted it BAD to put on her bed.

They also had a metal rooster statue that was big and I wanted it SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad to put on my deck, and I wanted to buy one for RaZ too...but, it was fifty bucks...again, I had my husband with me, and he sure does know how to say NO. *sigh* I am going to look online for one now...

Squirrels are rather acrobatic creatures and I would imagine being that active would lead to sore muscles and aching joints. I recently discovered how they are able to stay so agile. Sort of makes you jealous doesn't it Raz.

Oooo, if I can make it (not sure yet) I'd be interested in the hostas! The north side of my house is bare because I can never get anything to grow there. Hostas might do the trick!

*whispers* And Waffles. I want Waffles. LOL!

I think I can make sure both of those items appear at chickenstock

Should have plenty of different ages/varieties of silkies and showgirls and different ages of Speckled Sussex chicks too for chickenstock! It's coming up fast and I'm excited to see everyone again...but mostly Opa's yummy chicken!
