Quite a talented group around here. Seeing all these posts about the things others make made me almost post some of my own creations. Then I remembered that most of what I have made in the past few years has been creepy things.

I enjoy Halloween and haunted houses, so I got into the hobby of making props and little art pieces related to the holiday and just creepy things in general. I try to stay away from being too graphic and I don't touch the tasteless subjects, I prefer to entertain people not make them sick to their stomach.

Other than Halloween stuff, I sometimes sew small things, mostly animal hats, though I've made a few stuffed cephalopods and a couple dresses. Sewing is not something I am fantastic at, but I am getting better. I haven't done any sewing since November because most of my fabric is being used to protect our foam tombstones from rubbing the paint off each other.

I'm going to clean up the garage and shed soon, so I'll be able to reclaim the fabric eventually.

Juise - I must have missed it. You got new chicks and they're ill? How old are they? Are the running noses and bubbly eyes the only symptom?

Ugh, thanks for the replies, guys, that's more than I'd hoped for, which was probably foolish. $100 just means a lot to our family right now.

Olive, I am guessing they are about 7 - 8 weeks old now, they were supposed to be about 5 weeks old when we got them a couple weeks ago, though I am not sure about that. Those are the only symptoms I have noticed, unless they shouldn't molt at this age! I would certainly appreciate any ideas / advice, we have not yet dealt with any chicken illness.

Babygirl,

Thank-you for your suggestions. I never thought of using a mirror, I'll have to try that. It might be a noisy night. I had to take the 4 week old chick back out, she started picking on the little one.

How long have you had them?

How long have they been exhibiting these symptoms?

Does it seem to be spreading?

What is their environment? Where are they being kept? What kind of bedding? What is the ventilation like?

Are they eating normally? Drinking normally?

How is their growth rate?

What are you feeding them?

Any mortality? If so, how did it relate to the symptoms timeline wise?

Are their droppings normal?

Any head shaking?

Rattles/rales? Abnormal breathing sounds? Have you listened closely when they're resting?

Panting or gasping?

Any blood in your brooder you can't explain?

I know... lots of questions... sorry.

Sorry, also, when I brought in Miss Isa last year, the bill was only $43... He didn't have to do a culture though. BUT, he will be able to give the right antibiotic. I'd take both girls that are exhibiting the symptoms in. He really is a nice guy.

1muttsfan I do think, however, that I will be rehoming the 3 bantam lav ams this year
Boy, i wish you didn't live so far away!!!

Well, when i got to the chicken shack today my little rose was off her eggs today, and one of my EE's was up there trying to lay an egg, so i now know what the issue was. She don't look real good though, really weak and tired. Is this normal? I have little food and water dishes set up so she can eat on the nest, because she wasn't getting off the nest to do it. She is not quite a year old, and i worry that she is doing too much too soon. I pull her off once a day to poo and try to get her to eat a little, but never for more than a minute on account of the cold.

I thought the eggs were dead, because they were cold again, and i was trying to decide whether to put her back up there, so i broke one open expecting to only see a little blob.

There was a little chick in there. So i put her back up there and shut the door, but now i feel like a complete murderer. Unless they were already gone, and that's why she didn't want to set? But the other hen NEVER goes up there usually.......... Aaaaaaaagh this is enough to drive one mad!!!!
