OMG I have no idea what the hell that creature is in that animated picture...haha! Weird.

I dont think I have ever eaten rabbit...I like trying different types of animals but that one I've never yet had. What's it taste like? Chicken? haha

That is a great visual.

LOL! It's not as awkward as it sounds. Most of our gilts and sows are well trained to lay down for belly rubs by the time they reach farrowing age so it's just a matter of walking up, rubbing their side and waiting for them to lay down. As odd as it sounds, I do regularly "milk" the pigs as it's the most accurate indication of when they will farrow. Once we're able to express milk (which at that point is actually colostrum) we'll have pigs on the ground from that sow within 12 hours. So... at the risk of sounding even weirder than I actually am, I try to milk the gilts and sows twice a day when they start getting close to their due date.

Haha, ahh, well, it's not a non-fiction work, but honestly, I expect accuracy from the author! It is a very small thing in the plot of the book, but at one point the main character is trying to save an infant and the only thing available would be milk from the wild pigs. The book is called "Nation", it is by Terry Pratchett.

Juise - Gotcha! In that case it is pretty accurate. It's physically possible to milk a pig, but you're not going to run around saving infants with the practice. And especially not with wild pigs.

HERE PIGGY PIGGY PIGGY!

Neighbor got guineas. HEHEE. Now my kid wants them. Um... No, I will just stick with the problems I have. LOL

Grandma... Na, my girls are quite clean. She finally pooped out that egg and was fine after that. It was bigger than normal, didn't even fit in the stupid egg container. BUT, that is a good thing to keep in mind. I wouldn't have ever thought to check for that.

The burn pit is nearly empty. I am going to take the leaf blower to it tomorrow and put on a mask, and blow the ashes out into the woods. I will make sure its not smoldering first. BUT, I figure it'll be a good place for it. Actually, I will take a few shovels full to the side of the house where they dust bathe. I thought I read some place that wood ash helps repel lice and mites. I like that. I could be wrong. Could be an old wives tail, but, hey... old wives sometimes know a thing or two.

I have 5 days till school break is over... Yes, I am counting down.

Juise, how are the girls doing today? Have anymore started showing symptoms?

Mom 2em All They changed the KMR formula,
Out of curiosity, what was the difference?
I had an albino cat i found and raised from 1-2 weeks old to 2 years, I tried everything and the only thing that i could feed him with was a medicine dropper and warm goat's milk. Everything else came right out. I had to be careful what i fed him as an adult too, so it's probably not the formula's fault, probably why the mom left him. (Neighbor's dog killed him) I still miss him dearly, he was the closest to a baby i've ever had, slept at my head and rode everywhere in my truck with me.

Update on little rose, the sick broody banty: Well, she's still shakey and won't take too many steps at a time, but she's still hanging in there. I spent the whole day loving on her and bringing her here and there so she could get some sun and be part of the group. I tucked her in again with a blankie half over her nest so she could snuggle under it and feel protected. I almost buried the eggs, but when i went to pick them up i felt a tiny bit of warmth in some of them, and we are coming on the end of the second week. I desperately need to candle, but everytime i try i can't because of the kid's schedule....... I figure they haven't exploded, so......?

Also, i've been wondering, can bunnies get chicken's lice?

We went and got the goat supplies today and are going out tomorrow for the goat house and goats. The goats we are getting are quite a funny pair. The whether boy is so active. Loves to be rubbed, pop up on you and has a thing for zippers. He chewed on the one on my coat pocket for a few minutes and then decided to reach up and unzip my coat for me.

The girl is more passive and shy. My oldest daughter was with us and those two bonded within minutes which really surprised their owner. Didn't surprise us, though, as she is our personal animal whisperer. There hasn't been an animal yet that we've seen that hasn't liked her. Anyway, tomorrow should be interesting once we get them home with us.

It was a beautiful day for the chickens. They got to spend all day out and about in the yard. I have to say I love pulling up to our drive and seeing them free ranging.
