I typically follow recipes the first time, then I tweak. Sometimes it just baffles me to see a recipe and realize it doesn't contain a certain spice/herb or other added ingredient that you think it should that ends up greatly enhancing the flavor.
As for tomatoes, for most of my life I couldn't stand them. I could use ketchup and spaghetti sauce, but the actual tomato was disgusting. Somewhere in the past few years I started liking them a lot. It no longer bothers me to eat slices or diced tomatoes. I read somewhere once that your taste buds change every ten years and I believe it. I never liked mustard either, but do now, too.

Breakfast has helped perk me up a bit. There's nothing better than cracking open a few eggs and seeing those bright orange yolks. Oh yeah.

I agree with you on the cooking, but baking is a different story. I've always heard that cooking is an art & baking is a science; this is because the measurements for baking are more crucial (sp?) to get the results you want. That being said, I sometimes (albeit rarely) change things when baking, and it's usually minor things. When I cook though, I try all kinds of stuff. When I try a new recipe, I tend to make it as it says the first time, and then tweak it the next time I make it (if it was good enough to warrant cooking again, haha). I really love cooking and trying new foods, I just wish I had more time for that right now.
Baking is where I first started experimenting. Changing ingredients, changing amounts of ingredients, playing with the temperature and bake times.

After proving to Mom that I wouldn't burn down the house "playing" with the oven, she refused to stay in the kitchen. She simply couldn't watch what I was doing.

I would never in a million years leave my oldest daughter alone in the kitchen. She would never be able to prove to me that we weren't in a fire danger. Poor girl just can't cook. She even made her group in her cooking class at school ill...and that was just pudding.

She sounds like my second wife. That girl couldn't make toast.

Oh, the stories I could tell of her kitchen misadventures! I have advised her for quite some time now to marry a cook when she's older. LOL.

She tries, bless her heart, but it just doesn't work for her.

Hello to all of you, I'm on line with my new computer. Hope this works. Already i find new stuff goin on. It'll work out one way or another. I've been off line for about a month now. Well not really. I just have not taken the steps necessary to post anything. I have been reading a few posts but know I.ve missed more than 800. And I'm still livin. Part of the problem (no, not with me still living) was difficulty with the wireless connect and solving that allowed me to discover that the DVD/CD drive did not work. At least it didn't play. I hate trying to communicate with support staff for whom English is a second language. Just can't understand so much of what they say. Took almost a week for me to get Toshiba to approve sending the thing in for service, and then they goofed up that somehow so another week was required before I could ship it to California for service. Wonder of wonders, they did agree that as I had told them many times , the disc drive did indeed not work. They replaced it. Now it works !

Newer is definitely better now. I'm going to love this thing. I know I will not have time to keep up with all the posts though. The new system is much faster, but I am not. You have been involved in some interesting discussions. It's been good to read some of whats going on & off. I'm going to try to transfer some of what is on the old comp. to the new one .

Skunk Odor Removal Recipe

Works at least as well as any boughten product, and much better than tomato juice

Mixtogether:

1 quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide 1/4 cup Baking Soda 1 teaspoon liquid soap

Apply the solution like a shampoo, paying special attention to the areas sprayed directly. Sponge on around the head - do NOT get into the eyes. Rinse off after 20 minutes.

This solution must be used immediately after mixing and should not be stored. Do not place in a sealed container.

Solution may bleach pets hair.

Re-apply as needed.

Probably. On the front porch your neighbor can sneak over and rub mayonnaise on your cloves.

I usually only change things around when I dont like the results, but Ive never baked anything that I didn't like enough to change it, lol. My cooking on the other hand...I have a ton of recipes I made up that end up a little different every time I make them. My chili especially...my BF loves it and it's always a little different. Last time I made it I accidentally put a ton of pepper in it (on top of the 1/4 cup of chili powder & a whole tablespoon of pepper flakes) and it was so hot I was sweating while I ate it, haha. It was good though, great with garlic bread. Next time I will tone down the pepper a bit.

Thanks Olive, I hope they figure out the coop situation. Ive been letting them walk out on their own but they cant seem to figure out going back in. Well I mean, they're not even trying, lol. Maybe it's because they're still pretty small? On the other hand...they could figure out how to squeeze though a part of the fence gate (which I have fixed) but could never figure out how to get back in their. Silly chickens.

Hey chicken grandma I have a question about that sauce making method...

When you "bake" the onion/peppers/tomatoes, how much do you use of each, and what does it yield? As in, if I wanted to make a quart jar of sauce, how many tomatoes and peppers and onions, to get the right flavor? Like 5 tomatoes to 1 pepper & onion or something? Im sure it's not precise by any means, but I'm terrible at estimating stuff like that so I wondered if you had any idea on that one. I am totally going to try this.

Frederick The Garden Bunny is dead.

Can't believe he made it this long, frankly. Last night he opened his eyes for the first time and had been hopping around his bucket quite a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if seeing what awaited him is what did him in. LOL!
