I think you have to do the vent sexing in the first 24 hours? Not sure though.

You can vent sex anytime, right into adulthood. It's the only way to tell for sure with some geese.

You know, I forgot (how can that be?!) on top of the dog fiasco my other trauma all of it happening simultaneously, of course.

I mentioned I lost one of my 26 six day old chicks Sunday and chalked it up to death by trampling. But by Monday morning, 2 chicks became ill, and after one died another became ill that night, by Tuesday afternoon I had lost 4. (I had put them in a hospital box right away.) All were my Golden Buffs (none of the Blue Andalusians were ill) and the symptoms screamed Marek's. Now I did get them vaccinated for this. I assume it's possible that some can succumb to the the shot? I have had no time to do any research and I am really too frazzled to even try, all my energy is going into the electric fence.

It has now been 48 hours and everyone else seems perky and are still running around. So I have my fingers crossed. Still have 22 chicks which is about 12 more than I had planned when I thought I was going to get them at TSC.

I assume they are perky, haven't checked in a couple hours. Hope I haven't jinxed myself.

BTW they're all in a wire floor brooder that hasn't had any birds in it for a couple of years. I really hope things calm down around here!

My parents went to TC today and took my sewing machine in... again. So my mom calls me and tells me it will be $400.00 to be fixed and they may not be able to get some parts. She asks me if I want to get a new machine.... uhhh no money mom. So she asks if I would like a new used machine....uhh again mom no money. Well it seems good old Dad convinced my mom she needed a new machine while at the shop and so now she is giving me her "old' machine. It is not old and I'm not sure why he thinks she needs a new one but I am just going to be thankful that he always wants her to upgrade! Now maybe I can get my sewing projects done.

It looks nice out today but I had to go back to finish up my root canals so I haven't been able to enjoy it. My son is very happy because he went swimming instead of working on school work... we'll call it a fitness day!

Hello I was wondering if there were any Malay breeders in MI? I have a couple bantam malays but I bought them from a dishonest man who said they had no defects but they really had split wing (a disqualification), which I didnt know about at the time. I like showing and would like to do my best to improve the breeds I own, and split wing is nearly impossible to breed out. But I love the malays and would love to find some show or breeder quality birds (or eggs).

swampducks, it's possible .... The hatchery (Meyers, i think) order book that i have does not recommend doing that particular one for small flocks? Didn't say why.

Mine are mabie a week old, and they are jumping on top of each other? Really hoping i don't have all roos, that would be just my luck...... ! (Yes, i am a rooster magnet too)
