Adorable rabbits! I really don't need any more critters.
The coconut pound cake is sooooooo good.
Keyt, another surgery? Get better soon.
Sunny, but oh so windy!
Have a good day, all, and don't blow away!!

The first thing my vet says when I call him about a sick bird of any kind is 'put a heat lamp near it for 24 hours and then call me back'. So that is a good tip for all of us and a free tip!

Just got internet back, wicked windy here....the BR is 9 months old. She's been a very productive layer and continues to lay, however, this morning she layed on the floor. It's been 2 weeks now because as I left to Boston my wife noticed a stumble, and since her condition has been stable to the point she stumbles around and uses her wings to balance when she tips over. Pretty sure she's avoiding the normal food/water only because it must be painful to move. Placing food/water next to her works but is time consuming to say the least. I was hoping to see improvement with the vitamins. The snowshoe idea has been around since my Dad tended a high production flock (1000 + birds) in Oregon back in the 40's. They did experiments for Purina back then and that was one aspect. Anyway, I'm willing to work with her. On a bright note, it's sunny now!

John - good luck with her. I have felt it rewarding to work a bit with my hens instead of culling them right away. I had a 7 year old hen that was arthritic. The vet told me to put her down because she was lame. I did not take his advice and she got injured by a hawk and then we put her down. So just a warning there that the predators go after the weaker birds in the flock. I may have missed this part of the thread but did you think this was Mareks?

John, could you post a pic of her feet? I hope you are able to solve the problem.

Robin,

I wish you the best!

Daron, congrats on the pigs!

Opa, I would love to have some of that coconut pound cake. Please share the recipe. I also have an abundance of eggs here.

Chickflick, be careful that you don't blow away when you take the dogs out for their walk.

Congrats on all the new chicks!

Olive - Where are you located? And how much space would those turkeys need coop wise?

I finished my quilt. It's called Precious Peeps. I figured it was appropriate from the crazy chick aunt to be. I've thought of making a few to sell but not sure on that.

Whew! What a windy day! I know, it has already been said. BUT I am only just saying it. HEHE. Papers were a trial this morning. However, I got lucky, and about the time it came to be out of my car alot, that rain had stopped. I couldn't throw a single paper this morning either. I didn't even bother trying. LOL, It would have been like kites, only no string to pull it back. I did see some kids trying to fly kites yesterday...

Been productive today. Got the duck pen switched over to the other side of their coop. Moved the pool for them so its a bit under the tree... They have 2 trees in that side. Their happy now. LOL. They were running out of grass. I now have a huge muddy section of lawn. Going to seed it, hope some will grow. Its to big of an area to try and fence around. I do not have more fence, nor do I wish to buy more fence. SO, will just deal with what the chickens might find and eat. Speaking of chickens... Roger was in the new pen with me while I was getting it re-staked in. He was so happy because I let the ducks out of their coop as soon as I had the fencing moved and he got his chance at being the big bad rooster. Little 3 pound demon terrorising 8 pound ducks. HAHAHA.

Well, I gotta go to the TSC. I am to lazy to drive out to where I normally would get straw. So, going to spend the $6 bucks. I only need 2 flakes actually. One for Leila. Hers are due to hatch in the next day or so, and I like the straw for the babies. Especially after the last hatch. AND, Skeeter will need straw too. I am going to double check her eggs tonight. If there is still no development, then she'll get a few store bought orps or dots... not sure which. UNLESS I get lucky, and there are silkies. Our TSC hasn't gotten any... BOOHOO.

Well... guess I will get moving. Day isn't getting any younger.

Pretty sure it's not Marek's but without bloodwork it's only a guess. Since the wings are strong I doubt it.Usually with Marek's the legs splay out and wings go also. I'm optimistic.
