Olive - Where are you located? And how much space would those turkeys need coop wise?

I finished my quilt. It's called Precious Peeps. I figured it was appropriate from the crazy chick aunt to be. I've thought of making a few to sell but not sure on that.

Taprock, that is a lovely quilt.

John, I replied to your post about the NH's. Don't get blown away in that field!

Taprock, that is a beautiful quilt and please p.m. me if you plan to make them to sell. I would love one in the same pattern but I would like to choose my own material so that I can coordinate colors. Just lovely!

John - glad it is not Mareks. good luck with her - she is lucky to be on your farm!

That quilt is adorable! The skill is on my list of things to learn. This Summer I'm going to be crafty.

The wind is awful. It alternates between cloudy and sounding like a plane going by to gusty and bright. My son hates the wind but I might entice him outside with the kite.

Taprock....that's a beautiful quilt. Are the chicks apliqued on your blocks? What size are your blocks, and what are the overall dimensions? I love to quilt when I can find the time. Usually only over the winter. Any other season I'm outside as much as possible

Yes they are appliqued, ironed and quilted. I did 12 inch blocks, not sure on total dimensions I just added a border and satin on the edges. You can find a pattern at Joanns.com. It's called Precious Peeps. I took the chick pattern and blew it up to the size I wanted it. This one I just used scraps I had around and her color theme was green.

Olive:

Amazing birds for sale! I wish I had the time and ability to properly breed to standards and purpose. Maybe one day when we have more room. I hope they get an awesome home Olive!

It really doesn't take much time. Just watch them grow and eat any that don't conform. LOL!

I'm about an hour north, a little west, of Lansing. They don't use a coop here, they much prefer to be outdoors, but I would allot 1 foot of roost per bird. I believe there are recommendations out there something like 10 square feet per bird. Personally, I find that to be TINY. I wouldn't go under 20 square feet per bird total space. If they have a big run you could get away with less inside, but they really are most comfortable with plenty of room to move around.

Well, they haven't done a very good job on mine! @#$*%^* dune grass.

We kant have dunes w/o dune grass. And where would michigan be without dunes?

Aren't you pretty far away from me?
Sure, ribbit ranching, frog farming, amphibian agriculture. Bullfrog busting and toad taming a specialty.

I'm trying to get a breeding group of bullfrogs and green frogs here, so I usually buy a dozen or two each spring. Sometimes I get a call to go rescue tadpoles from in-ground pool covers.
Remeber the days when the roadside ditches and irrigation ponds were just naturally alive with a wonderful and abundant variety of frogs & toads and other amphibians ? WE, as a species, are such grand and glorius stewards of the environment provided for us to enjoy. Too bad so many of us have interpreted that as destroy.

We are fortunate if we have the land to grow things and keep animals.

In Hawaii there are areas where things won't grow well because of the lack of SOIL. The ground is lava and they struggle to create topsoil.
Also, the sulfer dioxide there and volcanic ash can cause trouble with gardens.

In Los Angeles we were a mile from the ocean and it was often very wet and foggy. We struggled with mildew.
That is why I enjoy Michigan so much. Things really grow well in this state.

Hawaii was a better setting for the animals. Less disease and less predators. I find it hard to keep chickens here in Michigan. The Winter is hard on the chickens and me also.

And here we have sand, lots of sand. But we also have that darn Amopholla to begin the succession to temperate decidious forrest, a rather lengthy process very difficult to hurry OOps I better get off my soap box/horse.

Thanks, I was afraid of that being the way it is.

RaZ- why are you wanting amphibians for your property?

They are super for supper and as an enviromental index organism. You got em ? Your habitat is pretty pristine.

I don't know how to add a note to the previous post. SO HERE i don't think Amophola is the correct term. It is Merriam grass. I think.

Alrighty then... I did my shopping rounds... Asked at TSC if they were getting chicks tomorrow. They are finished apparently. So, whats left is it. The youngest in there are 5 days old. Think I could slip 5 day old kids in with mama? or do you think she'll eat em?

Or... Where's Randy's number? I am thinking I might go to Muskegon for those faverolles...
