Docent duty starts today. I have back to back tours of second graders on the trails. I hope is warms up a bit.
After that is a lecture for us docents on the massasauga habitat restoration project. That should be interesting.

Then I need to stop at TSC to see of they have the axle I need for my trailer. I hope they do, I need to get it back on the road to haul equipment.

My husband is actually quite supportive of me, so I was mostly teasing about the complaining. Heck, he even cleans the coop for me and changes their food and water because I am very allergic. Laugh all you want, yes I am allergic to chickens and most other animals although I can't get enough of them. Not sure if it is the chickens, or the dust mites that feed on their discarded feathers. My last two jobs were at a zoo and humane society and I was pretty sick and miserable.

If I don't know you all very well or chat on the forums much so far, do you think it would still be worth the drive out from Rockford/Grand Rapids? I'd probably bring my husband and 2 & 4 year olds to see all the birds.

Are you talking about the drive out to Chickenstock? Defineatly worth it. My frist time was last year and my DH and I had a great time.

Sarah you should all have a good time. My dad stopped by last year - he is not a "chicken" person but really enjoyed it. There is a playground at the park, and other husbands for yours to chat with.

I wonder if they had caught invasive feral hogs and were raising them. It they were in fact normal pigs, I don't think this would have happened. The article makes it sound like DNR was a heavily armed SWAT team. Geez, DNR doesn't even have enough money to keep some of their state parks open. I question the source of this story....

What the hell is going on up there!?!?!?!? It's like we live in Soviet Russia or Castro's Cuba now!

*sigh*

They did NOT raid "farms" they raided hunting ranches.

The two in the story are this one and this one.

They had not "caught" anything and raised it, they had imported wild boar long ago and had been charging people to hunt them for years.

You know what else has been going on for years? The design of this rule. And yet the ranch owners chose not to destroy their swine earlier.

Those poor, poor pigs that were "shot in cold blood" were 1) intended to be shot in cold blood from before they were even born and 2) would tear you in two and eat your carcass given half the chance.

More hyperbole, more misinformation, more fear mongering. Again.

Welcome harpgirl. :)

I signed up for Chickenstock too but I'm awful in a place where I don't know anyone (real life anyway). Add me to the list of "shy" people and since I'll still be a new chicken mom I won't have much to talk about. My husband can talk to anyone about anything, he doesn't have a shy bone in his body, but he is also a bit more ribald than people are used to from time to time. He's toned it down a lot in the time we've been married so I will probably come alone.

The weather is beautiful so I'm going to try and get outside. Wish I had a clothes line for my blankets and sheets.

Sarah, that's sad. :( Wishing you more luck with the rest of the eggs.

I read some about those ranches and a lot of the stories on that website were a bit over the top so I was a bit skeptical.
