Hey, I was wondering, how often do you guys have to replace metal waterers? I have one of the big galvanized steel ones, and it is starting to rust already in the water tray, it is only a year old and I was rather surprised by this.

my 2nd tractor. Took a little more time, I really tried to think it out and chenge t hings and make it NICE.

Good enough for 6 hens. Completely stained all the wood, Has double fencing on it. Chicken wire for the babies and 2x4 welded for larger birds and predators.
Has nest box inside and 2 perches, completely enclosed except floor. Hinged back door with latch and hinged lid to retrieve eggs and remove nest box for cleaning.

Im very proud of this one:

I don't think the first one would be any good for keeping chickens in permanently, but the 2nd one could be because it does have a nest box. You'd have to place some patio blocks jround the whole base I think to keep predators from going underneath, there isn't alot of room, but I understand a weasel can get thru small places.

Mom 2em All, Tomorrow some of the bunnies, and chicks, are going to an Assisted Living Center to be the focus of "Baby Week" in Norton Shores. Pretty sure a particular girl bunny is making an appearance.

Thanks Kimmie,
I serve the tomato sauce with fresh basil in it over pasta or in lasagna. I make the tupperware that I freeze it in 'pasta sauce'.
Sometimes I make a batch of roasted onion, peppers, tomatoes and garlic.(no basil) I blend that and freeze it and mark it 'Chili'. Then I pull it out when I am making Chili.
Sometimes I roast and blend tomatoes only and mark the container that way. 'roasted tomatoes'. That is a good thing to have on hand.
It is easy to roast the tomatoes because you can hang out on this thread while they roast! Also the skins don't have to be removed.
One great thing that Olive pointed out is that I freeze the sauces and that is the safe way to store these sauces. I hope that helps get you started! I got the recipe at Oprah.com
I think it was called Roasted Tomato Sauce.
What do you serve it on or with? Sounds so good!
Kimmie

That's weird. I have some that are 10 years old and look new (enough). The only way that can happen is if the galvanized coating wears off. Maybe it's just a fluke. I have a better one that I made from a 5 gallon bucket and plastic pan. It lasts a good spell even with meaties.

uchytil, Thank you, that's what I was hoping to hear, as they are rather expensive to have to replace annually.

ChicwannaB - Those are FANTASTIC chicken tractors! I wish we lived closer! I think you are right, they would not be safe for nighttime because of the lack of a floor.
A predator could dig under. But for day time - those are the bomb!

Good luck with the Norton Shores Pet Visits John!! What a great thing to do!

I am on my way out to get some hamburger for the grill. All the talk of pigs and lambs has created a desire in my son and I for a nice big juicy hamburger!
