My hubby brought flowers home for me last night, apple pie, and asked me what kind of coop I want him to build... He was such a jerk last week, I think this is his man way of an apology. I think I will except it when the coop is done

I am opposed to any law that is vague and left to interpretation. To often tragedy ensues.

While I tend to agree with you I might be able to use the vagueness of Garden City's chicken ordinance if I don't get the ticket dismissed first. Afterall, aren't chickens more popular than canaries?

Well I think the kicker here is going to be the bolded part. You keep your chickens inside your house? Do you let them sleep on the bed with you?

Daisy, my old JRT, is alert and active this morning. I haven't look at the abscess today but the minute I picked up my truck keys Daisy was at the door waiting to go as always. I think I may see it the vet will sell me an anti-biotic that I know is effect for canine tooth problems and periodontal disease. My oldest son works for Royal Canin, the world's largest pet food manufacturer, and has become extremely knowledgeable about dogs. He is quite in demand to give lectures at dogs show and kennel clubs across the US. He tells me the leading cause of death for small dogs is complications of periodontal gum disease. While Daisy's days are numbered, I want every one of them. As long as she isn't exhibiting signs of distress I'm going to take a wait and let nature take its course position.

Raz... How many do you have? Why did you get the ticket in the first place?

My cities ordinances
Sec. 6-4. - Keeping animals other than pets; proximity to other dwellings; running at large.

(a)
It shall be unlawful for any person to keep any animal or fowl within one hundred seventy-five (175) feet of any dwelling other than dwelling of the owner. It shall further be unlawful for any person to permit any animal or fowl owned by him or in his possession or control to run at large in any street, alley or public place, or upon the premises of another without express permission of the owner or occupant thereof. This section shall not apply to such animals or fowl as are commonly housed in a human dwelling as household pets.
(b)
(1)
A person who cannot reasonably comply with the requirement that no person shall keep any animal or fowl within one hundred seventy-five (175) feet of any dwelling other than the dwelling of the owner may file an appeal to the zoning board of appeals clearly outlining the relief sought and his or her reasons why the variance and/or modification should be granted. The applicant shall pay the appeal fees as established by the city council and shall file the application on the form provided by the city.

The first step is getting the ticket dismissed. The ordinance officer did not see any chickens whatsoever.
Do people sleep with their canaries???

I got the ticket after the neighbor turned crabby and I refused to cut down a tree in my front yard. After having chickens for more than a year it is no a problem because I refuse to follow her directions.

I was going to say.... RaZ, I would be in so much trouble if I lived near you. My chickens are in EVERYONE elses yard. LOL. Yesterday, I found Veena walking down the middle of the east lane in front of my house. She had her head to the ground, so I think she may have been trying to catch a bug. I yelled at her, and she went running back into the yard. Stupid chicken. But, thats what running at large is. Yours are confined to pens when you let the out... SO, in a sense, yours are convicts... LOL

Opa, enjoy every last one of those numbered days. WOW, 16!

Got to looking at one of the GLW. I think she may not be, either that, or she's going to have some poor coloring. The comb however looks to be the right kind. No single combs in the group. I picked out the 2 SLW while the sales lady got the 2 smallest GLW. They were in the BSS, so... I don't mind. I will have 3 GLWS and 3SLWs.

ON the topic of MG. I found a lady in Allegan who has POL silkies. The first thing I asked was if she has her flock tested. She said that is one of the tests that they do have done, because they show their birds. Along with several other tests, and do far her flock is MG free, and they do not allow birds in until they've been tested. She said she was willing to let me see the tests. SO, Roger will have some lady friends soon!

Juise I can give you some cake recipes that work just fine without eggs if ever you want them, just let me know.
I like cake recipes! Never know when you may run out of eggs in the winter or something, i really don't like buying those grocery store eggs. I still don't understand why vegan's aren't supposed to eat eggs or dairy, though? If it's from a farm you know, the animals aren't being hurt by it...? Not bashing at all, just really curious.

ladyfeather Right now my largest chick is doing something really, really odd. "She" is stretching her neck with her beak open as if to yawn or crow. I searched it on BYC and a few people said its normal and others mentioned gape worm. Now I am off to check out gape worm to freak myself out :/
Sometimes birds can get hiccups, and they kinda yawn and stretch that way. It's just like ours, comes on sudden and they do it in a rythem and then poof, they're gone! Probably just that. :)
She is 16 years old and I had decided that as long as she isn't in any type of distress
You can get capsaisen pills for dogs, that is supposed to help ease arthritis. There are other things, just don't know right now. My uncle used them on his dog, and it made a huge difference.

Ha ha ha! I like your "office ma"! :D very cute.

Yay Daisy!! I hope you can enjoy a bit more time with her Opa!!

We may have sold all the lion heads... trying to make arrangements to meet and get everything squared away.. I'm always leary about selling things to people... esp live things.. that I care about. This is partly why I stopped breeding dogs. I had one puppy I sold to someone I wasn't keen on .. and it's bothered me so much I stopped.

Wish us luck!

OK that is the first and last time I try to do something nice for my chicks. They're like vipers! I give them a chick treat log and end up with one chick with a bleeding throat (who I assume I should keep separated). What a bunch of jerks!
