That was exactly what I was thinking. The price quoted in a different post was really high for sure, but $68 is incredibly cheap!! Does that include anesthesia and everything, or just the procedure?

Sam, make sure that quote included anesthesia, and I would recommend presurgical bloodwork especially because of her age.

You can stay until you get my house cleaned and organized.

Actually, I find that if you throw everything out the front door..it doesnt take long to clean and organize......

I think this is a basic fear for most ladies. I have 2 invites this summer for 2 class reunions and though I would like to go, I don't want anyone to see my pleasantly plump figure either. I'm not huge per se, but I could do with losing a pound or two. For anyone who has always been self-conscious, it isn't always easy to think others would look at you no different than before. It can also hinder any ideas on meeting anyone new which is why I tend to keep to myself or only to those I already know.
I understand - I myself sure could never fit into my highschool shorts...or my pre-pregnant shorts...or my ten years ago shorts...heck, or my last year shorts...hahahahhaahaha,,,,, Im not even sure that the shorts I wore WHILE I was pregnant with my son would fit now..
however that cannot prohibit me from seeing old friends. Um, it USED to...but its pretty darn lonely to be insecure and self-conscious.
If I worried about meeting anyone new, I never would have gone to Chickenstock, and I would have missed out on meeting the most wonderful people, and solidifying new friendships...Highschool reunion...pppbbbbllltttt...I went to one of them..I dont remember what year,,,and I found that the people slippped right into whatever role they had in school. If you were shy,etc...the popular...I really think my husband and I were only there for about an hour- and then we left and went to the bar where our friends were. I did not like highschool, people were mean and I definitely didnt have but two or three real friends. Outside of school, it was such a different world- thank goodness, or life would have been pretty miserable.

How long does a broody care for the chicks? My mom seems to be losing interest in her babies. They are 6 weeks old and not quite fully feathered yet. They tend to wander off on their own. I found them all out side the chicken yard this afternoon and mom was back in the coop.
My babies scatter all over the place between five and six weeks...they still seek out Mom when scared, but she is pretty done by then. Its rather sad to watch when Mom no longer wants anything to do with them, and starts to chase them off. The chicks are like, "What? What did I do, Mama.....oh, look a bug...." and off they go..

This is a test. Hoping it works....

I have some that look just like that brown one in the center. What kind is that one?....

I've had my chicks for two weeks now, and they are still doing great! They are getting quite feathery, and finally some of the other chicks are putting up a real challange to the current 'top chick,' Pearl. Actually, one of the chicks that doesn't often get a turn on the roosting stick overturned their waterer today, and decided to roost on it.

It was cute. I think I want to add a silkie to my 6 chicks, but I'm wondering if that would work out, if I bring in a baby chick that is weeks younger than the rest?
They will beat it up. You need a separate brooder for the younger ones, and then you can introduce them together when you move them outside.

I will be getting my chicks next week. Will a very large rubbermaid tub work good? Will I need vent holes?

Kimmie

If you can use something for the top, like hardware cloth or see Teevilles picture just a couple posts above..then you wont need vent holes. Just remember the tub wont last for very long.

The first pot of coffee is ready and the second pot is ready to go once everyone gets up. So while it's still quiet why don't you grab yourself a cup.

An old song claimed "What a difference a day makes" and today sure is starting out much warmer than yesterday.

I have always taken my dogs for an annual checkup and never debated about the cost. However, when I was told how expensive Daisy's dental work would be I started shopping price. Every place around here that I checked was about the same price. When Joe told me what it cost in his area I decided to head south. Last year we took Daisy with us when we went to visit my two sons in southwest Missouri. While there I took Daisy to the vet for a check up and to address her continuing dental problems. She needed four extractions, a rabies shot, and a parvo shot. All of that plus a follow up anti-biotic prescription came to $156.

Good morning, Michigan, cool and cloudy here with rain - possibly snow? predicted for later.

For the injured chick, change your light to a red bulb. That combined with the blu kote will reduce the risk of picking.

Hi sweetpea and KNS

A large rubbermaid tub will work just fine for a while - they will probably outgrow it quickly tho.

That does not surprise me.

You sure seem to get accused of ignoring people a lot, you know that?

Oh, and as for being mean, you did compare me to your ex wives, whom I was generously assuming must have something wrong with them, since you didn't keep 'em.

I am terrifically bored, this is supposed to be my ever-so-limited playtime, and my video game is taking forever to update.

I have run out of ways to amuse myself... I need more hobbies. Well, hobbies that don't take very long and fit into the compact amount of time I have for them. Other than talking to myself on this board. Meanwhile... DH's computer is much newer and faster, and his patch took all of two seconds to download, so he's been playing away while pine by myself.

What games do you like to play? Im a video gamer too when I have time...which isn't often lately.

I'm sorry, I am still chuckling over you thinking I reprimanded you about letting your chick roost on the waterer.

How could you possibly let her do that!?!

You people were chatty all night! Im normally more of a night owl too but this getting up early for work crap is preventing that. I just end up too tired if I stay up as late as I normally do! I hope I get that call from her today so I can quit my current job. I cleaned out my desk last night & took home all my personal stuff, just so that when I quit I can just walk. Cant wait, the suspense is killing me!!

To the new folks!

There was WAY too much chatter since yesterday...I can't catch up!

We met with the woman and her DH who bought all my lion heads. She had chickens and turkeys too so we chatted about them. I will probably email her and invite her to come to BYC. Her adult son wanted the rabbits and hopes to show some of the babies. So I think they're going to a good place. Whew!!

DH got me a faring for my bike, so selling the rabbits will pay for getting it painted to match. Since we won't be carpooling anymore, I'll have to ride the bike to work more often...YAY!!!

Saturday DH agreed to help me rip some 2x6 down to make a brooder frame. I'll be happy to get the chicks out of the storage tub. Would 2'W x 6'L x 2'H be a good size?

Time for Coffee!!!
