Good morning Olive, thank-you for responding. I got so mad that I was up at 3A looking for my receipt, trying very hard not to drop kick and stomp on the thing. Shipped eggs that were suppose to show up next week came on this past Thursday, so in a panic I picked up a farm inovator bator just to get by. So glad I did, maybe I can save this hatch, and limp it along till my 1588 that I ordered about 4A shows up. Do you have any tips and tricks for me?

Yes. Set your eggs. Walk away. Set it and forget it. Don't mess with them. I'm pretty well convinced that many -- most, maybe -- hatching issues we see on BYC could be avoided if people would just LEAVE THE EGGS ALONE. Get yourself a turner, set the eggs and WALK AWAY. Do not candle seventeen times throughout the hatch, don't open it every other day to check on them, just walk away. I set my eggs, I walk away. I write the lockdown date on my calendar, I go back on that date and lock them down. That's it.

German & Giant varieties - have the most amount of fiber, can have facial and ear furnishings but not as much as English, and must be shorn to collect fiber.

Bwahahaha! I want!

Lol, you must have read about my absence of patience. I'll do my best to leave it alone. Do I need to add sponges at lockdown to boost the humidity high enough?

Morning......chilly but sunny and not I'm going to complain. Went to TSC yesterday like I planned and those darn rooster sculptures are still $50 bucaroos. As much as I really, really, really, want one I just couldn't fork the money over. They still have a few of them.....don't think they are selling ($$$) so I'll continue to watch & see when they go on sale. I don't care if I have to wait til the end of the season!
Which TSC? I've been to 2 of them and no rooster sculptures.

The 1588 will come with a water reservoir tray that goes beneath the wire floor. It comes with instructions on which holes to fill at lockdown (the two center ones). I fill the very center one, per instructions, when I set the eggs but I do not worry about keeping it full. I then fill the center one plus the one surrounding it at lockdown.

Ok, I think I've read 50% for the first 18 days and 70% at lockdown, does that sound right to you?

No, I am talking about a 6 yr old little boy whose mom thinks that when a kid is afraid of something, you do your damndest to protect them from getting over their effen fears. This kid is afraid of his bike because he fell off, so now he will not get back on it.

SO, maybe I am a hard rear about that sort of thing. I think it is healthy to have a respect for dogs. Like, you don't just go up to a dog willy nilly and try and play/pet it. That would be stupid. BUT, When I have to lock my dogs up because they are happy to see you... Because they bark... and your kid is throwing a tantrum until he gets his way... I do lock them up out of respect for others especially if their children are not used to dogs. BUT this kid has been around BIG dogs. Grandparents have dogs. BOTH SETS. AND it is only cuz Ruby is a barker that he freaks out acts like a baby and gets his moms "my poor baby".

So, my youngest sets them loose in the back yard, and Jai ends up on the cube screaming bloody murder. I walked out on the deck, told the kid to shut the hell up, there was nothing wrong with him and the dogs were not going to hurt him. OMG, that kid shut his mouth so quick and my friends mouth just about hit the floor at how fast her kid shut up. He didn't even cry. I told her, I wouldn't tolerate that kind of behavior at my house. I put the dogs away again, disciplined Aiden, and sent the kids in the toy room to play. NOTE: I have been friends with this woman for over 20 years. We are late starters on the parenting thing.

I know I probably sound like a jerk. Thats ok. This is how I feel. If the kid had been bitten before, I might be more sympathetic to that. But he hasn't and I am not.

Shes doing her kid the biggest disservice by coddling their insecurity!

The kid just needed to be brought back to reality that's all. Sometimes they get so worked up over their fears that they are blinded by it. I think you handled that perfectly!

I do not use a hygrometer. I walk away.

I don't even have a basic thermometer in there.

Do a test hatch. If you have issues then you'll need to troubleshoot. If you don't, walk away. The 1588 comes pre-set to the appropriate temperature and the reservoir tray is designed to provide the proper humidity. Walk away. Give it a chance to do its job before you start fidgeting.
