Next Saturday is good for me and no, thank you. My friends will thank you also. We like all colors , especially the blues LOL

Stacy, the camphor you use for bee stings should be fine, as long as it actually smells of camphor. Its the vapor that opens the air ways... soothes I should say.

You know... back in the day... like before we had vics vapor rub, docs and medicine women would mix goose grease and camphor to make a chest rub. Yuck. I think I will stick with vics... not that it is much better in the slime dept... but at least you do not have to worry on it going rancid.

Also got some speckled sussex chicks in this batch, they are soooo cute. They look like little chipmunks running around.

Anyone got any good cough remedies? Besides ODing on cough suppressant (which I've taken, with little difference). I'm coughing my lungs out here, and can't seem to calm it for very long. Mint tea with honey soothed for a few minutes, a hot steamy bathroom made no difference. Going crazy coughing, I'm willing to try anything!

Is it a dry cough or a wet one? Productive or no? (basically is it a tickle thing or does it feel like you have a large badger sitting on your chest or does it feel like you're trying to cough up pudding - if the latter are you actually able to cough it up or is it not quite coming out?)

Oh are those the ones with the kinda wide dark stripe right down their backs? I've always wondered and the totally look like chipmunks to me! Congrats and adorable!

M Sue.....sure sounds like you have a great barn family there. . Everybody does their fair share of chores....no princess mentality here. The way we look at it is that horses are a lot of work, so if you want to be involved with riding, you have to pitch in on the not so fun stuff. It gives the kids a clearer picture of just how much responsibility it is to own a horse. Helps the parents to separate the once in a while riders from the hard core horse nuts like me and my daughter.
It is a great barn and family. As for the princess mentality we don't allow it either, and that goes for the parents too!! Funny story here....There was this one mother last fall, never rode in her life but knew everything about horses and had a bad habit of ticking the trainer off! Her oldest DD rode western but wanted to a few English lessons. One day she came up to me as I helping my DD bridle her horse and she asked if there was a bath room. I politely said "Yeah, there's an outhouse out back behind the tack room" She crinkled her nose up and made some sound that I took as her opinion of gross. I looked back at her with a straight face and said "Well, you could always choose an empty stall." The look of disgust and repulsiveness was priceless as she stormed away!! I have to also tell you that I've know this women for quite a few years since our children attend the same schools. I'm active in their schools as much as possible and have been around her many many time. She has always given off this I'm better or don't care what you think attitude. Needless to say...they no longer ride at the barn.

That 3' metal rooster in the TSC store is pretty cool! I suggested we get it for our farm sign.. and DH was worried that someone would try to steal it. I hate having to worry about that kind of stuff.... I'm hoping to catch it on sale.. maybe I'll get it then.

Doing the same thing here. Checked on these over the weekend at our store and still regular price. My patience is starting to dwindle.....it would so look cool in my rock garden!!

This one is so dang cute.....has character!!

I stuck up a picture of one of my chickens butts.

lol...I thought I was the only one who took pics of chickens butts! I can't resist, they are so FLUFFY!!!

I'm really starting to think that Raz has some serious issues. First we find out about his bird fondling and now it's dog licking. I think he's spending too much time alone.

I'm on my phone so I can't really respond to everyone but I wanted to add to the perch/roost discussion. I'm of the mindset that wild chickens would roost in trees and would generally be fine. So I'm thinking my girls will love their roosts.

Absolutely!

Finally, after a million intruptions I'm caught up from today and I KNOW when I hit the submit button there will be more to read

.

I have a Buff Orp who is trying to go broody. We keep removing her from the nest when ever we go out to the coop, put her in the pen, make sure she gets out to free range and make sure she is up on a roost for the night. Is there anything different I should be doing? This is what I did last fall when my little Bantam tried to go broody and it work. Took several days but worked.

Oh poop! I just realised I haven't put the ducks away!
That made me think. My mallards were still out by the pool at dusk. So I wandered out to check. All 3 ducks and the chicks were in the coop sleeping just outside of the heat lamp zone.

But I didn't see any of the big girls. Turn on the garage lights and there they were...up in the rafters, roosting on my good oak, maple and poplar lumber. They never went up to the rafters until Brian showed them the open spot in the ceiling.

One more chore for the list.

My mother abused* me with Vicks as a child, can't get near the stuff now without having a panic attack. Did you all know it takes the burn right out of a sun burn? It works like a charm, hubby would use it on every sunburn he ever gets, but I won't let him wear it to bed around me. So it's sleep on the sofa, or suffer with sunburn.

*And yes, by "abused" I mean she used it as directed.

Problem is, I can't breath when I get too hot. Can't sit in hot tubs, don't drink hot drinks, etc. She would always tell me to stop whining and cover back up and go to sleep. At some point I'll probably require therapy for this and a host of other parental misgivings that weren't resolved in my first go 'round with the shrink.
