Well poop, I have to go to work now. :( I work "prn" as a CENA at a nursing home. I have to work tonight, tomorrow night until 7 am and until 3am on Friday night.

But on a fun note we out the 9 big girls out in the coop tonight! They are so happy.

Someone asked if I had all pullets. I'm pretty sure on all but the 2 D'Uccle babies. And I'm not scientist but I'm wagering a guess that those are a boy and girl. Waffles had a nice straight greyish stripe down the back of her head and so does one of the babies. The other baby has more of a haphazard splotch. It probably means nothing but I'm curious to see how it works out. 2 more weeks and I should know!

HaHaHa! You could just use the empty horse stall...that's a good one...I'll have to remember that one...lol..
I bet she's never been camping either...maybe just in a brick tent as my husband calls them. He he

I seem to have broken my broody Polish by putting eggs under her.

She managed to escape a closed cage sometime this morning and has been roaming the yard since. Tonight I went to tuck them in and she was in the rafters next to the door and gave me a nice screech with lots of attitude.

Stacykins - I happened to get a book titled "Grannies Remedies" at the library. I looked up coughs. I'm not going into all the variety of teas. The two I REALLY thought you should try out were these unpleasant ones. Peel and slice onions. Fry them until brown. Place these tolerably warm onions between two large clean washcloths and lay on the chest for a poultice. AND Boil 2 or 3 snails in barley-water. It also notes not to tell the patient. The only one I thought looked worth trying was sipping pineapple juice. Hope your feeling better.

Kinda bored this evening, I don't have any projects or good books so I'm watching old tv - X-files, a show I never watched. Night.

Cool. What do they eat? Do you feed them the same as chickens, or do you have to get a special food for them? Can you eat their eggs like chicken eggs (I guess I mean, would you want to eat them), and do they lay a lot? Are they a lot more expensive? Sorry I'm suddenly full of questions on this, haha!
Sarah, my grandfather raised them for years in KS. They were easy to raise he never supplemented their feed unless it was a really hard winter, they found their own food and would roost in the elm trees above the sheep pens and provide warning calls if coyotes or strays came anywhere close. Now for him they were triple purpose; eye candy, watch dog, and thanksgiving.

Stacykins- I took my son to the doctor yesterday. He had pneumonia! It was bacterial (community pneumonia/walking pneumonia) so you may need an antibiotic, even without a fever!
Do you have a med center near you that is open this late? If so, ZITHROMAX is what they gave us to treat this MYCOPLASMA infection! Does that sound like something our chickens get or what????????? No, we did not get it from chickens.... it does not cross species. Z-PACK is what the doctor called the antibiotic. And I am giving my son a probiotic too.
Someone told us that a teaspoon of whiskey mixed with a teaspoon of honey works. Keeping you in my prayers! Let us know how you are.
[/quote] CG, I hope your son is doing better really soon, walking pneumonia is no fun. My little one is over his fever and on the way back to school this morning.

When I was a kid my mom and dad fry would an onion with some garlic slices and wrap them in a cloth diaper and slap it right on my chest. It did work but ya end up stinking like onions and garlic, I would also get honey and whiskey warmed up to. But I think the honey and whiskey was for a sore throat. On a completely different note..... Some jerk stole all of my diapers off my clothesline today

$400 down the drain and I'm left with 6 prefolds 1 diaper cover and 3 kids in diapers. I have never been this frustrated and mad in my life.

I make a chest rub using coconut oil, olive oil, or vegetable oil as a base, and then for a basic rub I just add eucalyptus oil and / or peppermint oil. It works really well. If you have a humidifier you can put some of the eucalyptus oil or peppermint oil in there as well.

Actually I have recently found also that just snuffing the bottle of eucalyptus oil stops my asthma attacks faster and better than my inhaler. It's crazy! I was having a really, really terrible attack a couple weeks ago, had already used my inhaler twice, and was still hugging the toilet, gasping for air, and gagging, and my DH brought in the eucalyptus oil as a last ditch effort, because we use it for calming coughing spasms when we're ill, and the entire thing instantly stopped. I still can't believe it. Tried it again a week or so ago when I had an asthma attack, and it worked again. I am super stoked about that. But anyway...

When I am feeling extravagant I throw in lots of other things that are supposed to help, like dried thyme, rosemary, teatree... to be honest, though, I think eucalyptus oil is what really helps.

Chicken Grandma - Hope you little one is better soon.

Plus, it's just total BS, what a horrible thing for anyone to do! I have extra prefolds I could send you, but I am not sure how much that would help. I know I have some extra covers and things, but I would need to check, I couldn't tell you what kind of condition they are in without checking, but please do let me know if you would like me to, I could send you a few pic if you want to see if you think you would want them.
