WE FOUND THE DIAPERS!!!! My oldest was on his way home from school on the bus and seen a bunch of 'big' kids (teenagers) wearing them on their heads and using the prefolds as bandanas. Hubby informed the police and the kids where all caught with them. Parents where called and they gave them all back. One mom even gave us all of her old AIO's. I just can't believe that they had these on their faces. Two of the boys will be mowing my lawn and building my chicken coop with us. Their dad was ****** to say the least, and volunteered them to come over everyday after school for the next month. And on the plus side my chickens are getting their 'grown up' feathers!

OMG great news!! That is kind of funny actually...I hope someone told those dumb kids what those "rags" were used for!! haha!

Ok. I have to ask about one of my chicks. I posted in the what breed section, but I think I need an opinion from someone with more experience. I have a buff colored 8 week old chick that was completely white as a baby. I don't think it's a buff orpington due to that fact, but they all say it is. I know some of you have buff orps so I'm asking all of you are they known to sometimes be absolutely white as babies? I always thought they were light yellow as that's all I've ever seen them as. I even have two buff orps from last year and they were yellow, not white. My oldest DD thought we had accidentally bought a cornish cross, but it didn't turn out like one. It took weeks before the buff color starting showing up. So can any of you confirm that buff orps can be white as babies or am I right to think that it is a different breed?

What is this? I don't understand what that sentence means..lol...
lol. sorry! you say "chick chick chick" whenever you give treats, or anything "new" they haven't seen before that you are trying to say is edible, ha ha. Later on it makes it easier to catch them or coerce them into the coop, just holler chick chick chick, and watch the stampeed!

Ah, okay. That reminds me, I have been meaning to ask...

What time does everyone shut their chickens in? Do most of you lure them in before they would normally go in, or do you wait until later when they have gone in themselves to shut things up?
I raised my roo from a lil peep, and i have him trained to get everyone in at the beginning of dusk. I pretty much put mine in lockdown, as i've seen predators try to come around early sometimes.

Where do you guys that use DE get it from.
I haven't bought any this year, but if memory serves our coopersville feed mill has the equivalent of 4 gallon baggies worth for around $6? She was selling it by the baggie, now it is a pre-bagged brand. She might buy a giant bag for someone, if they wanted to order in bulk.....The big bags were the same size as a 50 # feed sack worth, i think. THAT was being sold for 50 cents a baggie, so it couldn't have costed much!

WE FOUND THE DIAPERS!!!!
ha ha ha ha ha! I can't believe those boys were using them for bandannas! Oh the shame.........I bet they felt pretty small, and seems like the dad is not afraid to teach "consequences"!

what fun,

I'm still not sure on the sex of the three who will be coming with me. I ended up entering 4 and none of them are showgirls because my nice hen...well...doesn't look too nice lol. I think she's been man-handled a little too much by the roosters.

So when I bathe my chicken, at what point to I add the noodles and vegetables?

I'm up late and you guys have been chatty as usual!!

Thanks everyone for the kind condolences and for the info on other places to look for the DE. When I was at Fowl Fest last year some guy had 50lb bags but was asking way toooo much. If someone at Chicken Stock has it & it's reasonably priced I might stock up for the winter.
I have a page with discussion questions that ends with the idea that if you are doing the right thing even when it is scary you are also brave. I also have a page that shows the real Peep and tells them about WCB Polish. This is to lead in to learning about chickens. Are you scared of chickens? Most chickens are scared of you, which in turn leads to how to handle a chicken and basics.

I Loved the Story and this will put the finishing touches on perfectly!! You Go Girl!!
As for the part that someone mentioned about sneaking the cat's food/water I never thought of it as stealing but I didn't think that deep. If you did decide to change that part you cold always say that Peep found some water/food in the yard, after all she is a chicken and that's what they do. Just a thought but I really liked it!

Our blue pullet...she just thinks she's all that and a bag of chips....

Oh but she is!! Good luck at the show, I'll be thinking & wishing I was there.

I used baby shampoo/body wash. I read you can pretty much use anything but I figured I would use something that was not as harsh as adult-people shampoo. Dog flea/tick shampoo was recommended too.
This is good to know!!

WE FOUND THE DIAPERS!!!!

What great news PLUS you get your lawn mowed and your coop built.... Oh Yeah!!

I know some of you have buff orps so I'm asking all of you are they known to sometimes be absolutely white as babies? I always thought they were light yellow as that's all I've ever seen them as.

Mine were yellow and that is all I've ever seen but I do recall when I got them some were much lighter than others.

I found this picture so I wanted to share it, it's cute and funny. lol
I've seen this one before and it is funny....I can imagine hearing it.....Ahhhhhh It's on my head, get it off!! lol

And welcome to BoyneCity. I have family in the surrounding area of your neck of the woods. We make several trips up throughout the year! Never Miss Apple Fest in Charlevoix.
