Are you looking for types of plants to grow in a damp area, or are you looking for a ground cover in lieu of grass? Or both? What side of the house is it on, and what kind of light does it get?

I have actually made some minor changes to this copy but it was the easiest to find. In general I'm looking for ideas of what kind of questions I'm going to have to field from kids, both about chickens and being afraid. How to keep it on track I guess. In the letter I am sending out to prospective schools/etc. I am pretty clear that if I get a question on "Where do the eggs come from?" or "Where do the chicken nuggets come from?" The kids will get a truthful answer in the gentlest way possible. The thing is you NEVER can imagine some things kids ask!Taprock, your story is cute, and the illustrations are darling. What type of criticism specifically are you looking for, and is this the exact working copy that you posted, e.g., you didn't leave out punctuation, etc., in this type up that you have in your own copy?
P.S. I hope you don't take it down before I get to try it on my kids tomorrow, gimme until 1 or 2, will ya?![]()
I'd like some ideas on this, too. Not sure about Mom2Ems situation but I live in a swamp. Literally. I mean I have a lawn and some higher-ish ground. but basically swamp. Here's what I'd like though I don't know if anything is possible:
1) I'd like a fast growing shade tree. It won't be constantly in standing water but the ground would be pretty spongy where I want to put it.
2) Anything that I can put between the lawn and the swamp that will help in my never-ending fight against the cattails. I like the cattails, I just wish they wouldn't encroach. Not sure if there's any plant on earth that could win that battle and not end up being more of a problem though.
3) It seems like most wet plants aren't edible - no fruit trees/bushes like spongy soil, even plants aren't that keen on it (except I guess celery...). It would be nice if I could plant some bushes or trees that I could eat the fruits of.
I pretty much get massive amounts of sunlight. The ground is just wet. Always.
The peeps have arrived! That phone call at 6:05 this morning could only be one thing. Post office! I jumped out of bed and drove to the post office post haste! All of the chicks seem healthy and happy except for one. She is smaller than the others and just sorta stands there and seems uneasy on her feet. Her head and wings are both a little droopy. I did see her peck at a little bit of food though, so hopefully she will come around. Hope to get some pictures a little later!
I still just love this picture. This sums up how I feel about mornings.
Looks good!!!
WE FOUND THE DIAPERS!!!! My oldest was on his way home from school on the bus and seen a bunch of 'big' kids (teenagers) wearing them on their heads and using the prefolds as bandanas. Hubby informed the police and the kids where all caught with them. Parents where called and they gave them all back. One mom even gave us all of her old AIO's. I just can't believe that they had these on their faces. Two of the boys will be mowing my lawn and building my chicken coop with us. Their dad was ****** to say the least, and volunteered them to come over everyday after school for the next month. And on the plus side my chickens are getting their 'grown up' feathers!
Seriously? On their heads? Oh my...I'm SO glad you got them back AND even just as important their parents are holding them accountable.![]()
VJ - I would simply take a damp cloth and wipe your dear Waffles down. It is not natural or desirable for a chicken to be soaked to the skin. Especially a young chicken like Waffles in this early Spring weather. Also, by using baby shampoo you will remove her natural waterproofing oil. I assume that RIRJen is keeping her chickens in the house for a long time following their baths and she has a reason to bathe them (the show). As a rule
I would NOT soak a chicken with water and adding soap to strip the oils from her feathers is not a good idea. Just damp wipe a light colored chicken if you must and make sure it is 110% dry before you put it in a chilly location. Provide good dust bathing areas for her. She can preen and groom herself and will be healthier also.
You sayin' I can't have pretty chickens?I agree with chicken grandma, though, I would not do it if the only reason is to make them prettier in your backyard.![]()
