For those of you with adult d'uccles....how big do they get? Did you see the picture I posted of her and our Isa Brown? She is SO small. Can you post a comparison pics of a full grown d'uccle and another breed to compare?

Most water loving trees cannot be planted it within 50' of anything because the roots spread wide and shallow.

yeah, I saw that and put it in bold since you mentioned it'd be nice to get food too! I'd research the pear though, because, many of the trees now a days are grafted on different root stock. So you'll want to make sure the root stock can handle moist conditions.

we have an old pear tree, it's got to be 20' tall.. but it's pretty old. It is growing on the hill next to our pond. I know it's an old school pear tree. I've often wanted to clear the brush away from it to see if I can get a few pear off it and start some seedlings.

It was 32 here... SO, the night wasn't too bad. I did see frost on some cars, but not much. YEAH! A lot of people did heed the advice of the forecasters and covered plants. I brought mine in.

Well, no work today. WOOHOO. However, I do have to figure out what is wrong with that stupid lawn mower that keeps shutting off... I think there may be something wrong with the throttle...? There is gas in it, but it keeps stalling like its out of gas. SO, gonna degunk, grease up, change plug and hope I can get the back yard mowed before the wildlife thinks I am growing a jungle and move in, and eat my dogs. LOL. If I get around to it, I might work on the silkie tractor... Key word being MIGHT. LOL

Mom, maybe he does like watching the chickens. I have people who stop in front of my house, or stand across the street and just stare at my house... not MY HOUSE, but my yard. LOL. There is a lot of color going on here. A bunch of variety in kinds of hens. I'd still be wary though.

Glad you got your butt covers back Jen. To bad you weren't able to get a photo of the kids running around with those same butt covers on their heads. LOL. BUT, hey, you got labor, and all it cost you was a few days of missing diapers and the stress of maybe replacing them.

Check to see if you have an inline gas filter. You may need to change that as well. also, it may need a new spark plug!

Oh good point, I hadn't even thought about that. If I went to an actual nursery (not like a big box store) they would probably know, right?

They should be able to at least find out for you vs a bbs.

I was looking at the overall composition of my flock and contemplating the changes I want to make in it. I think that I want to increase the number of bantam blue orpingtons and the Vorwerks I have. So I am going to need to get rid of a few others. I have a trio of bantam Spangled Hamburgs that would be free to anyone who wants to come and get them.




They are beautiful healthy birds but since I don't handle my birds as pets don't expect them to sit on your lap or be a playmate for your kids

OPA - Do you think they'd be street smart as free rangers? Are the ladies still laying eggs occasionally? My oldest daughter loves pickled eggs and your case for bantam eggs, rather than large is quite persuasive. Our chickens aren't penned in a run though. Once homed they'd be free-ranged with the rest of the flock.

Like most clean leg small birds their fight or flight capabilities are still very good. I was going to cut the roosters spurs but as a free ranger he's probably be better with them. He is very protective of his hens. One hen and the rooster are two years old and the other hen about 8 months.

Yes, spurs are definitely a good thing to have... just in case... with free-ranging birds.

Well, I'd love them, but I was for some reason thinking Howell was closer to Lansing than it is. (Have to go there early this week, but am on a tight schedule when I do.) It's not too far, I just won't have time for the extra drive for a week, maybe week and a half. So if someone else wants them in the meantime, I certainly don't expect you to hold them. If they're still around when I get a couple free hours to swing by, I'll take them.
