Went to the Imlay swap just to look, got there just as everything kicked off.
We were there just to look, so of course we left with a couple Millie Fleurs. We creatively decided to name them Millie and Fleur.

Hopefully, they will be friends with our little silkie, they're about her size.
So far it doesn't look like the one we're calling Fleur will be friends. She's fairly aggressive, walks and jumps around a bit like a rooster. I sure hope she isn't a roo in disguise, she didn't look like the roo's he had and he didn't put her back when we said we were after hens only.

They're sectioned off apart from our other girls for now.

Ferret, Glad to see that others suffer from the same problem with poultry as I, the inability to not add. I'm trying my best to become better at subtraction but as soon as I reduce my flock size a sudden bout of addition hits me.

You mentioned that the new birds are sectioned off. From that I would assume that they are in the same area but have a barrier that prevents contact. If this is what you are doing and it is meant to be a quarantine procedure it is ineffective. Many viruses are air borne. The new birds need to be a considerable distance from your flock.

Morning everyone!! Looks like another crappy weather day. Oh well, at least we're going to a birthday party today so there will be cake to make up for the weather.

I did. In fact I took 2 for the team. Ugliest chicks I ever met, but now it is late and they look kinda cute.

Misidentifying someone's gender can sometimes be quite funny. When I first retired I decided to not get a haircut for a while, like four years. This was back before I started molting and with hair falling well below my shoulders I was told, on several occasions, that I had hair that many women would be envious of.

This is exactly why I decided that I would NOT be going to Imlay today. I think I have enough on my hands at the moment. (but Millie Fleurs are really gorgeous birds, I do kind of want some)

Oh! And nice tom Opa!

My mother hurt her back today
sad.png

She wasn't even doing anything strenuous at the time! She was rifling around in her work bag, and when she stood up strait, TWANG, instant crippling agony! Good thing she works at a hospital, she hobbled down to the ER (which was empty at the time, lucky break). She is getting an MRI tomorrow after an x-ray today revealed they need a clearer look. Of all the things that got hurt, it had to be the back! I am worried, but am here to take care of her. I just hope she can recover without a surgical fix.

Sorry ho hear this Stacy, hope she feels better quickly.

Fuzzy, my favorite pie is the one someone else cooks

Sam, nice Tom

Taprock, one of the chicks I hatched from your eggs is developing a head tuft - maybe a Polish cross? I will try to take a picture later.

Had a nice visit yesterday with babygryl and her husband, they were in town to visit family and had some time to stop by and see my chicken collection. Freckles the Speckled Sussex hen took quite a shine to her husband and followed him around the whole time. Didn't manage to sneak any chicks into their car - maybe next visit

We know it isn't a quarantine, we don't want them all together right away in case our Marans, the bullies, decide to get too aggressive. They outweigh all the others by at least 5 pounds.
Our birds free range, so they're in contact with wild birds and these birds will free range too. We understand the risk of illness.

The sounds good. Far to often people fail to realize how flock dynamics and size disparity can be a problems. Sounds like you have it under control.

I just came in from retrieving the shotgun hull, don't want to litter, plus I will use it to hold the beard when I display the tail. I measured the beard and it is 8.5" and the bird weighed 22.5 pounds.

The Schnauzer and I found four of the little buggars (American Buff Goslings) in the incubator this morning. Normally sell them for $15 each, but if someone wants them this weekend (aka I don't have to feed, water and clean up after them for more than a day) and you don't force me to sex them I'm totally open to making a deal.

looks like a good week to try to reseed my bald area in front of my coop again. I'm thinking clover, since it is a high traffic area, and grass don't do well, but i have been holding off for fear of frost......

talking lows of 50's next week, dare i hope?

Btw, those duckies are adorable! can't have one though.
