The photos of the cows in the woods are so pretty, it looks like lovely land. Your mystery flowers wild geraniums and false rue anemone.

(Unless Raz says they aren't

Juise, beautiful pictures of your girls. I wish I had half your creativity and imagination.
Farmerboy, you took some great pictures. I love the one of the steer coming through the brush. Keep posting. Also, I hope everything works out with your test/experiment and the new chicks are clean.

On a side note, realizing I am the new guy and you folks don’t know me but I wanted to put out this offer. Does anyone need/want me to pick up and mail back any specialty food items or other items before I leave Germany, something you just can’t find in the states and miss? This is limited to items I can mail (sorry no Amsterdam runs

). I personally would like to slip in a couple dozen hatching eggs, but customs tends to frown on those things. Just PM me and we can chat.

RaZ, I just had the weirdest dream about a post you made... You posted that silver laced wyandottes were not really ducks, but geese, because of the shape of their bills. And I got so excited because I had geese, not ducks! So I am writing in the mucky mess in the duck coop, "you are not ducks, you are geese!"

I have not slept. I have ghost slept, but not a real sleep. My headache seems to be abating, but now I have insomnia. Kept checking the clock. Hate that crap.

Scott... Stroopies. I could sure go for some butter stroopies. Yum.

Nova, I think I can probably manage to find some. Never seen butter ones here only the honey filled, are those the ones you are talking about?

BTW forgot to say it earlier, congrats on the BYC friend award.

I need to toss a random question out there: Does anyone raise chickens without a rooster? I have a lovely Splash orpington lady that can't be with a roo, for some reason or another she has very tender skin and has been cut by the rooster on 3 separate occasions. He's a gentle boy and does not have spurs yet so I'm thinking its something with her and not him. She does not tolerate chicken saddles. ( Tried that) She lays a nice egg daily, I get 5-6 a week from her. I'd hate to cull her as she is very sweet, but she is sick of the hospital box and I have 3 roos and no spare runs for her. The wound is all healed up and she is ready to find a loving home. If anyone is interested PM me.

Sure wish I could have slept a little longer but still I am grateful to find that I am looking at the green side. Sure was a long day yesterday. I was up at 4am and then wound up driving 900 miles. My son David and I kept driving southwest until we met up with my oldest son Joe coming from the opposite direction. When we finally connected we quickly transferred everything to Joe's car, grabbed a quick bite to eat, then headed back in the direction from which we had came. Joe & Dave had a six hour drive ahead of them while I faced one of eight long lonely hours.

It will be nice that all three of my sons will be together for a couple of weeks. David went to help Joe get his garden in and take care of some needed repairs at Joe's. He then will help my youngest son Scott on his bathroom remod. As if there wasn't enough on his plate he also plans on taking care of some thing at his mother's house.

It will be nice for their mother to have all three of our sons together at one time. Sadly when ones children become adults and jobs have resulted in their living far apart. I know of only five times in the last 20 years that they have had the opportunity to be together. Ten years ago we all we on a snow goose hunt in southwest Louisiana. I have a photograph of the four of us from that trip that is mounted on a plaque inscribed with a thank you. They had it made while we were on the hunt and presented it at dinner one night. It was my birthday and the inscription thanks me for my years of guidance and wonderful memories. I have it prominently displayed in my great room and it is one of my most cherished possessions.

I did come back from the whirlwind drive with a pig Joe had raised for me so that was an added bonus.

Today looks a little on the dark and gloomy side, I have'nt looked at the forecast, but it is still going to be a wonderful day.

Glad you had a safe drive Opa.

nitefyre, no you do not need a rooster. You only need. Rooster if you want fertilized eggs for hatching. Some people say that the hens are less stressed with out the attentions of a rooster.

EMAW, they've also got the stroopies with maple! Omg! I wish someone made them here. I have a friend who moved to the Netherlands, and she brought me some when she came home on a visit. They are so yummy. Can get them at Meijer here on occasion. They never seem to stay stocked long, and are usually stale... But I am only kidding. You don't really need to bring some. I don't know if you can even bring it back, being that its food stuffs...

Taprock... do you have your quail and chickens together?

No, but I have never heard the disease stuff. Quail are like game birds that go straight up when startled. Lots of broken necks if they have too much height. Also they are quite a bit smaller than chickens. Right now we only have the Buttons which are in the house. My son wants California and Gambel but he has to build an outdoor cage for them before he can buy some eggs.

I woke up to nice blue sky and the sun, now it has disappeared and the radar shows the rain is just about 10 miles away. I think I'll wait on letting the chickens in their yard. I have a few that love to escape and I would feel responsible to herd them in when it starts raining. So I'll just wait.

DH surprised me with a new little window, he found yesterday, for the coop ! We got it in and trimmed out just before the rain started.

He also had a frame made up for the door so I installed the boards on it, but we couldn't install it. (need to move the coop to it's place before installing the door to make sure it all lines up). Hopefully we'll get it done and ready for the Silkies to move in this weekend.

I'm looking forward to meeting 1muttsfan on Saturday to pick up the Sumatra chicks!!

I've been totally exhausted these last few days.. I never seem to get enough sleep. Last night, I finally slept all night...... it's just never long enough! LOL!

EMAW - Germans make some awful good beer!

Welcome back fife!

Olive! I'm jealous, I LOVE puppies!

Glad to see you made it back from your trip too Opa. Driving alone for long stretches can be pretty tough.

Farmerboy, keep the photos coming! I'm enjoying them!

Juise, you have some cute kids... love the flowers!

I think this weather front has us all messed up. But I hope everyone can have a great day despite the forecast!

Olive Border Collie's are awesome dogs but a have to tell you I have a Australian Cattle Dog so I know all about them having to be brave. That's how I was with my dogs if I couldn't watch them they had to go in the crate, they didn't mind it though. I always had toys and things for them. Sounds like a blast!
