Hi unnamed!
Nova, love the pics. I have d'uccle eggs in the incubator, porcelein and mille, with more porcelein coming next week.
What pics? The green house? HEHE.

Ok, SO, I moved the broody coop/dog house conversion out to the side yard. That is 9 less chickens in my garage. Now I just have to clean the mess up that has built up under it from the winter. OH joy of joys. The little chicks didn't know what to make of the ground, but they handled the move in the coop quite well. I was actually worried that they might freak out so bad in the coop while I was dragging it out of the garage. Leila hit the ground and I swear if chickens can do a peepee dance, she was. I think she was so happy to be outside. Yesterday I could tell she really wanted to go out, but couldn't cuz she wasn't willing to leave her babies, and they weren't willing to travel to far from the coop door. No, I haven't gotten pics but I will. They even have their only little 2x4 run. I fashioned it out of the quick brooder I knocked together for the Avalon chicks.

Roger wants to get in with her. LOL. Maybe in a few more days when the chicks are used to seeing him around.

Its a rainy dreary day here as well today. Chilly too. Supposed to clear up in the early afternoon though. I sure hope so. Kinderplaats is today, and I am sure they are not having a very successful time of it right now. Fireworks and music tonight at the park also. ME, I have to work. Oh even bigger JOY of JOYS. LOL

Guess I will get the garage cleaned up so I can start the new build. I am seriously considering not painting the inside of the coop but putting linoleum on all three of the main sides, clear caulking the seems... I bet that would make it super easy to clean and NO CRACK FOR BUGS!

Oh, our puppy is in heat. I am sure now. She is not acting anything different, but her girly parts are swollen, and I am finding blood spots on the tile floor. She was born last year on July 13. So she is almost 10 months old. We are not planning to breed her at this cycle, but maybe the next cycle. We are not liking her personality much, and we want to breed her to a pure German Shepard since she is half of it, and keep her best pup, and rehome her and the rest of the litter. I am sad at the thought of her leaving as she as taken me as her leader, but like I have mention before she has issues of obeying and some other things. She does a good job warning us of people coming in on our driveway, that is the reason why we got a dog. We want to enforced that trait of guarding with the pure German Shep. To my parents two dogs is way to much, as I would love to have a herding dog too.

If you think her temperment is a little off you're in for a shocker with herding dogs! They need lots of attention, training, attention, room to haul ***, attention, did I mention attention? Keep your mutt, she loves you. There are way too many dogs in the shelters nowadays. My wfe wants me to volunteer at the shelter in Muskegon but I'd probably come home with a new dog every time I work. So, keep the dog you have and train her - it's never too late to teach a dog new tricks!

OMG! I just turned the heat on!

Crazy freaking weather.
The rain is supposed to let up by 2, and the temps rise a lttile. I hope so, big Cinco party at my place today and a huge bonfire tonight! I moved my Kubota to make room for a bar (of sorts). I need to hang a Pinata too so here's to the rain stopping!

Soooo much food - Happy day Michiganders! Hope ya'll enjoy it, I will.

Buenos Tardes, Juan

Sounds like the cows had the pigs working for them to plan the escape.
Animal Farm all over again, but for real?
Good morning Michigan, getting ready to head to indiana, meeting up with Silly chicken on the way to pass on some little sumatra chicks - my they are cute!
Farmerboy, I hope you will reconsider your plan to breed your dog. There are several good reasons why she should be spayed. She is not purebred, and breeding her to a purebred dog will not make her puppies either purebred or more valuable. She has a questionable temperament, and in shepherd type dogs that can be a big problem, and it is very possible she would pass that temperament on to her puppies. And there are so many dogs already in shelters and dog pounds that it is very difficult to find homes for.
Totally agree. Payed $600 for a purebred Malamute, after lots of study and housing expenses too. We were going to breed some. She had hip dysplasia so we didn't go into that. Couldn't even show her after the puppy stage. Lovely dog. Loved her to ``beyond her dying day.

Woke this morning, read the posts, decided that 3 am was just too early, went back to bed, Now starting the day again I feel almost ready to face what ever comes my way. Coffee is ready so grab a cup and sit a spell.

I need to get the incubator up and running today. When I built the incubator I incorporated two quart jars of water into the design. I felt that they would help hold the temperature when its opened for candling. Also it might serve as a safety reserve in a temporary power outage. I'll be incubating at least two dozen Welsummer eggs.
Went to bed early 21:30 and was going to rise early to start breaking in the rebuilt engine in my Salmon boat. Picked the
boat up almost two wks ago and haven't made time to start the break in process yet. Had plumbers here to get prices on new water heater cause the one we have does not fill the bill. One of the plumbers showed me some pictures of his recent limit catches of Kings. He is a charter captain, fishes out of White Lake, says he has never seen the fishing as good before As it is now.... Man , I gotta get the engine broken in and get out there fishin. But, What I wanted to ask is. How much of a heads up do you require to send some Wellsummer fertile eggs? I Only want a few. Maybe 3 pullets.? PM me? Thanks. Or I could call you if you prefer.
I forgot about pickling - , I wonder how guinea would be?

My brother was stationed for quite some time in Itally. I seem to recall conversations that led me to believe they are much like any others.

I was thinking the same thing. We want to breed animals that have really good temperments and are very smart and obedient. A large dog like this that does not obey usually does not end up fairing well. They often are rehomed a few times and then end up at the shelter.
There was a barrel they ended up in behind the dog pond Pound when I was a kid. We collected .22 cal. cartridge cases, filled them with kitchen match heads, placed them on the sidewalk or other hard surface and struck them with a hammer. BANG!! Such fun. Then, one didn't explode. Despite repeated blows by several of us 8 - 10 year old. My older brother, 16 ish, was working nearby on his bike so we enlisted his help. Smash. nothing, smash nothing, Don't remember how many. But then BA LAMMM We had our noise and. A hole in the cement walk!!! with several shrapnel wounds in Bros arm and one in the middle of his forehead that spouted arterial blood. Seems we had found a dynamite cap that Jr. set off. I was not appreciated much for awhile after that. One piece broke his right glass lenses too. One rather strange thing to come to mind now about that event was the discussion my Dad and his father had about dynamite caps.
I wonder today how kids then managed to live long enough to//////

Sorry everyone I had to go down state (Lansing) for a doctor appointment and visit my DD, her internet was down due to getting new fiber optic wiring, for a whole month! Anyway I love the names it's hard to pic the best.
Paint it grey and call it "Stone Hens".

Or paint it gray, paint psychedelic chickens on it and call it STONED HENS.
This would be great, however I don't want to explain it to my Mom, LOL
So I have a funny story. Well I think it's funny anyway, sort of.

Remember how I've been talking about the mice we keep getting, and that we seemed to have the smartest mice ever a while back? Things would eat the peanut butter right off the traps and leave them untripped. We figured they were laughing at the stupid humans for being so naive about catching mice. So we got the old school wood and wire snap traps, and they did the same thing! Those things trip when you set them on the dang floor, but they somehow managed to lick them clean (and I mean clean, not a BIT of PB left on them) without setting them off. The one we caught last week was still alive, clamped on the trap, and STILL eating the peanut butter. Must have been good stuff.

So same thing started happening again this week. We decided to get glue traps. I think these are pretty inhumane (what a crappy way to die) since I can't imagine being stuck to something like that. Anyway, so we caught one...I left early in the morning and checked the glue, sure enough, there was a mouse stuck by one foot. I didn't have time to deal with it, nor did I really want to, so I left a note for BF: "there's a mouse in the glue."

He told me later that after he did the "wet work" and deceased the rodent, he set the glue trap outside on the porch for whatever reason. When he came back to dispose of it, the entire thing was gone! I bet there is a stupid cat running around the neighborhood now with a glue trap stuck to its face. And that makes me laugh thinking about it.

I have used the sticky traps and only found the leg and a blood trail, gross!

A friend of the in laws saw an Oriole today too. I have had some bluebirds make their home in one of the birdhouses we have. DH said that we have at least three piliated woodpeckers around here.
What about The Funky Chicken Shack?

I like the sound of this one, with the funky chickens we are painting on it.

There's a club in Chicago called The Funky Buddha Lounge. Maybe the Funky Chicken Lounge?

ETA: If you choose Funky Chicken Lounge send the aprons to HH. Funky Chicken ... was her idea and I won't use them. :)
OK Olive I will

Name for the coop... Shack deVille...

Dosn't someone have CoopDeVille?

Fowl Prowl. Hunting makes me think of prowling. I keep trying to think of hunting theme names and I'm still trying to rhyme something poultry related with Stealth.

Thanks everyone for the advice. She does loves me and all of our family members, likes to play with us, and is great with chickens. She has never chased a chicken or bit one, but loves their droppings. :sick We got her when she was 10 weeks old, and was the last of litter to be sold.

Her issues are-

Going bathroom where we don't want her to go, want her to go in one spot only. But getting better at that.

When we come home, she is on the landing on top of the stairs in the house, and she does not come down to greet us, but stay in her spot for like 5 to 10 minutes before coming down. When she does comes down, she have her ears flat, and tail semi tucked, but wagging a bit.

She wets a spot on the floor when we greet her.

Is skittish of things, would sometime bark at someone behind one of us.

Scared of the cows and would not go within 50 feet of the cow fence, but would go right up to the hog fence.

Biggest issue is that she only obeys part of the time, like- not coming when we call ''Come'' 50 percent of the time, she would go under a van or truck or a bench and lay down and wag her tail, but won't move. :he

Any help is appreciated.
