Here is a picture of my Bella. She is not a cow, nor is she a lady, apparently.

I got her from an abusive family about 2 years ago. They would ignore her, scream at her if she did anything that a puppy is supposed to do. Mostly they ignored her until she did something they didn't like, which was pretty much anything.
These people live next to a friend of mine and I would play with her over the fence. I often joked that I was going to kidnap her and save her from THOSE people.
Then one day when I was there, I saw the husband swing a kick at her, so I yelled at him. He said that for 2 cents he would take her to the pound. I pulled out a nickle and said that I'd take her and he could keep the change. He asked of I was serious and I said that I was. He said that if I could catch her then I could keep her. I went around to his gate and called her. She ran around him and right up where I could grab her collar. She walked with me to my truck and jumped right in.

Not that I needed another dog, but I brought her home and I'm darn glad that I did.
She had "issues" for a while, nervous piddling, barking at people, cowering and other behaviour problems. But I worked with her every day and my other dogs helped as well. I found that she wasn't exactly treat motivated but did thrive on reassuring praise. Positive reinforcement some would say.

There is no doubt that it took time and effort to socialize her to the pack but she has turned into one of the best dogs that I have ever had. She gives my golden a run each day, tells me if a chicken gets out of the run and warns me of any strangers that come into the yard. She still has a few deep-seated issues that pop up from time to time (like the f-bomb word) but overall she has grown into a great dog.

I think that just about any dog is worth trying to save. It's up to the human to decide if they want to make the effort. IMHO

Anyone remember the show "Fraggle Rock"? They had little muppet construction guys that built stuff and drove machines around. I thought of that while I was cutting and moving sod today. Here is my "doozer" wagon train...

Since Crabby has decided that property lines are important, I decided to help her define that line...

A drizzly day. I shot a raccoon this morning. A small one just sitting outside the back door as I was going to feed and let out the chickens. I went out to shoot it with the rifle and DH had me take the 22 pistol instead. Not my favorite thing to shoot - after hitting it several times it fell out of the tree and was still moving.

DH said it was dying but I made him shoot it with the rifle because I hate watching that kind of thing. And raccoons have to be so darn cute.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the rest of the day. Just wet enough not to be able to go outside but not rainy enough that I don't feel guilty about it.

Farmerboy - how are those emu developing? any babies yet?

Back again already. Ok my Orloff eggs were supposed to hatch on Thursday, they didn't start till Friday. I only had 4 eggs left, 3 hatched. I always leave the unhatched 3 days just to be safe. I was gone all morning. I looked in the incubator just now and there is a pip in the last egg! Wow!

Mom and I were out in the yard this morning. Heard a noise, some kind of animal going thru the brush. Big black bear crossed the road between our house and the neighbors across the street.
it was moving pretty fast,
slowed down to a walk
and was only this far from the house.

The coop is about this far from the house on the other side.

Hello Bonnie,
Check out my signature for info on Chickenstock. It is coming up soon.

I would chat more, but I'm cutting and moving sod. Just came in for a barley pop and a quick check on the thread.

Lots of nice people here to chat with.

RaZ- Great job about you and Bella the dog! She looks happy. :) I worked on our pup more today. I am going to keep treats in my back pocket, so I will always have it on hand for her training.

Tap- I am sure that one Emu egg is a dud, and the one that wiggled, I have not seen it wiggling lately. :( Its due yesterday. I am afraid that it had died. :hit I will give them until Wednesday before opening the eggs. I have 3 other eggs that are due in 2 weeks. One of the three wiggled the other day, so I am holding my breath on that one. Please hatch! I will be happy with just one Emu baby! :fl

:welcome Bonnie!

RaZ, she looks so much like my "Sassy" girl [Sasha] that it brought tears to my eyes.

Treats in your pocket is a good idea. I usually try to keep some treat pieces with me when I go out. I keep the bits in a zip=lock bag when I roam about. I learned that a long time ago from our mailman who always had a biscuit for the dogs on his route.
As kids, we thought that he was a king or something. Even the dogs that were "mean" would wag tail when the mailman did his rounds.
